Also canals in the UK don’t have strong currents and the max depth where he drowned was only 5 foot in the middle, even shallower near the sides. Nearly all canals in the UK are only about 1 metre deep in the middle. Look it up and look up photos of drained canals in the UK if you don't believe me lol
