Was I the bad guy for yelling at my friend?
-
I (29m) am friends with a woman who I usually just call Kay (33f). She's half-Japanese, half-White (French), and I've known her ever since I was 5 years old.
This past July, Kay and I spent two weeks visiting Japan. One day during our vacation, the two of us went for a run outside. Kay took her shirt off at our place, and she went outside with me, wearing a low-cut spaghetti strap sports bra and shorts. We were running, and during a section where we spent some time walking, we walked past two teenage boys who catcalled her and stretched their arms out to her as she ran past them. One of the boys' hands did touch her shoulder, and he also tried to grab Kay's ponytail. So we started running, not really for a workout but more for our own safety at that time. We ran to a pretty secluded area, where Kay broke down and started crying, and she let me know that she wanted to go home. So we started walking back home, and it took us about 30 minutes to walk back home. During this time, she was glued right next to me, and she kept crying and panicking.
We got back to our hotel, and Kay was just too terrified to take off her sports bra and shorts and take a damn shower. So before she got into the shower, she just totally lost it from her stress and fear. She lashed out at me and started screaming and crying at me, so I had to yell at her to stop, and it snowballed into a big fight. I didn't understand why she let two teenage brats ruin her day like that. In the end, she was sort of whimpering and covering her head with her hands (Kay was cowering at this point despite the fact that she's taller than me). It totally ruined the entire rest of our vacation.
AITA for yelling at her after she lashed out at me? She was freaking out so badly and disproportionately.
