Tip: GitHub Release Feed
-
If many of you use open source software that isn't bundled in a package repo or using a corporate OS, sometimes being informed of a new release of your favorite program is a hassle. However, most software forges do have a way to access the Releases feed.
Today, we look at GitHub's Release Feed. GitHub uses the Atom feed format for its release pages and the Releases page itself generates the feed. The best way to access it is going to the Releases page for a project you follow. Copy the URL from your browser and drop it into your feedreader. Attach '.atom' to the end of the URL and save.
For example, for the mobile RSS reeder ReadYou, the URL looks like
https://github.com/ReadYouApp/ReadYou/releases.atomNow you are subscribed to the Releases Feed of your favorite software project in a central place.
