US/EU Android in Japan: eSIM installs. Wallet still cannot hold Suica
-
Two radios get mixed up in Japan threads.
A Japan eSIM is an EID profile. If *#06# shows an EID, Airalo / Ubigi / Holafly will install. That is maps, trains, Translate.
Suica / ICOCA is a FeliCa wallet chip. Welcome Suica Mobile is 180 days, no refund (JR East, as of March 2026). Most US/EU Android still cannot add it. The eSIM does not add that chip. Buy a physical card at the airport machine.
Dated SKUs copied 2026-08-29 (expire when checkout changes):
- Ubigi 10GB/7 days US$14 on NTT Docomo. Their 7-day unlimited SKU URL was 404 that day — do not copy a blog’s $25 until checkout shows it.
- Airalo Japan 7-day 5GB US$10, unlimited 7-day US$27 with 3GB/24h then 1 Mbps FUP (SoftBank +1).
- Holafly Japan 7-day US$27.50; official page: hotspot 1GB/day.
Has anyone on a US/EU Android actually tapped a gate with Wallet, or only used a plastic card + eSIM for maps?
