Red on yellow, kill a fellow...but what if you're a shrike!
An unforgettable moment on a Florida backroad. From our vehicle we spotted a kestrel and a shrike perched on opposite fence posts with eyes focused in front of them. Then we looked down. A Coral Snake was crossing the dirt road right in front of our car!
While the kestrel bolted the moment we stopped the car, the shrike stood its ground, dove down, and snatched the snake. It flew back to the post (thank you Butcher Bird), pausing just long enough for me to capture a few shots.
