I have just dedusted (compressed air in spray can), relubricated (Vaseline) and cleaned the read head(s?) of (cleaning tape cassette) my VCR and now I would like to start digitizing mom's collection of VHS tape cassettes.

I just learned that the ports of a modern GPU - a 3080 in my case - cannot be "reversed" and used for input. Which leaves me with those USB dongles, right? Or are there PCIe solutions that are more robust? I can only imagine such a little USB device heating up almost instantly...

Any and all advice is welcome. 😊

I know Linux and I have experience with recording audio. I know a little Shotcut and even less OBS.

If someone is coming physically for your stuff, They wont just take a drive, they will take the whole thing so they will have access to the whole thing. This is where drive encryption comes in so when they power it back on it asks for the drive decryption key, of some kind of intermediate key to get the actual key from the TPM. There is a defcon talk about anti-forensic and anti anti forensic mechanisms you can use to watch to make breaking your system take longer.

You can open developer tools, download one of the files, then right click the request in the Network tab and select “Copy as curl command”, this will generate a curl command with all the headers and cookies.

You want an XUM1541. Edit: Commodore famously botched the code for serial data flow, so there are a number of products to get a load time measured in seconds rather than minutes... but there's no guarantee that these or the XUM1541 will work with an off-brand disk drive. [image: 4705f420-0d02-4225-b67f-85d9e73b1156.webp] You do not want an original Commodore 64 power supply. They deliver higher than normal voltage when they die and take parts of the computer down with them. Beware the epoxy bricks, both black and beige.
