Context: this one is riffing on the old saying that history is written by the victors. The joke is that the winners get to tell the story, but they usually leave out the messy parts like sacking cities, mass violence, and rulers having total meltdowns. It's a reminder that a lot of the famous names we look back on were also absolute disasters.
