context: The phrase "luck of the Irish" is actually pretty grim when you know the history. It came from the 19th century, when Irish immigrants in America were seen as hardworking but often stuck in the worst jobs. The "luck" was basically a sarcastic jab, saying they had no luck at all, just hardship. So yeah, anyone who's read a history book gives that exact side eye when they hear it.
