Visio-Display: a self-hosted digital signage platform with one-command deployment

Selfhosted
1 1 0
  • Hi everyone,

I have been developing Visio-Display, a GPL-3.0 self-hosted digital signage platform for centrally managing multiple Linux kiosk screens.

What started as a way to display images and videos has grown into a broader operational platform with:

    • Independent screens, playlists, ordering, and display durations
    • Image, video, and PDF media management
    • Date and time scheduling
    • Temporary priority campaigns
    • A built-in 16:9 announcement editor
    • QR code generation
    • Remote Linux kiosk deployment over SSH
    • Client heartbeats, online status, screenshots, and system information
    • Remote restart, shutdown, reinstallation, and updates
    • Users, roles, permissions, and activity logs
    • Manual and scheduled backups, web restoration, and optional SMB copies

Clients keep their configuration and heartbeat token locally. If a screen loses power or network connectivity, it is simply marked offline. When it becomes available again, its systemd service resumes sending heartbeats and the server recognizes the same client without manual re-pairing.

The server uses Python, Flask, Gunicorn, PostgreSQL, Redis/RQ, and Docker Compose.

A guided installer can deploy the server stack with one command:

    bash <(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/woofix/visio_display/main/server-install.sh)

I use ChatGPT/Codex as an assistant for some code suggestions, reviews, tests, and documentation, while I maintain the architecture, deployments, and validation of the running project.

Feedback, testing, bug reports, and contributions are welcome. Which environments or hardware platforms would you test next?
