How to Leave a Community One is Banned (or similar) from?
-
That's the question basically.
I cannot post or comment. The community main page has neither the "Join" nor the yellow "Leave" button. Yet it still shows up in my profile page sidebar (and possibly also in my feed).
How can I actively leave the community resp. remove it from there?

That sounds like a bug.
I have not put much effort into optimizing the experience for banned people, sorry. Normally I want to make life hard for them, not easy. But obviously that is silly of me because mods aren't always nice people and they ban people for bad reasons quite often...
I've added this to the list.

Block it. I don't know if it's very different in Piefed, which is a fork of Lemmy, but you should be able to just block the community. That should hide it. Not sure about the sidebar though.
Power-hungry mods from Reddit are ruining Lemmy (et al) with bans when they should be using blocks. All they're accomplishing is reducing engagement — and I think that's the point. Don't get me wrong, if a person deserves a ban, they should get a ban, but I see a lot of "I just want to see Lemmy burn" rather than "I want to make my comm better" (mostly looking at YPTB).
