Pink Floyd (and other things)

Today, I went to a live string quartet concert of Pink Floyd's greatest hits; It was good, but not fantastic. I noticed some mistakes during the concert, small things here and there, especially near the end of the concert (the performers were getting tired, I'm sure), which did take away from the experience a little. Also, this was all in a small "intimate" room, by candlelight (fake candles, thankfully, but ones that emulated all the good aspects of candles quite well), which is just not great! I mean, I kind of get the idea (it feels special or romantic, it's intimate (whatever that means, frankly it was a small room and we were quite close to the performers; I suppose that's it) and emotional), but it falls flat. The acoustics were fine but not the best, and since not many people actually fit in the room, it puts all the more pressure in each individual person to in turn perform for the musicians when they inevitably try to get the audience involved (which I hate, by the way). I liked the music, very much so, but I wish they'd stayed quiet and just played more; I wish the seats were comfortable, as they are in large arenas; and I wish I could see them better, as one can in large arenas, even despite the distance. It wasn't a bad experience by any means, but the format is a gimmick that takes away from the performance. This is music, not theater; drop the theatrics.

I listened to the most recent Olivia Rodrigo album and it was great! I loved every song, I loved the progression and the story of the album, I loved the powerful and emotional vocals by Olivia, and I loved the fantastic and creative production by Dan Nigro. The lyrics were raw and emotional and at times genuinely poetic, which I really appreciate. I feel like a lot of pop is vapid and boring (it's like they're just saying stuff), but Olivia seems to actually mean something by what she's writing, and from what I can tell, she does write her own lyrics. Overall, an impressive showing by her. If you've yet to listen to it, make sure to check it out (Olivia Rodrigo - you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love). I'd say a strong 4/5. Purple is a mediocre song; the whole red and blue make purple thing is wack, and a few songs' production is somewhat underwhelming, namely the first song on the album, drop dead (it feels empty, almost like they forgot an instrument or something).

Otherwise, pretty uneventful day for me. I read and wrote some in my journal. I had fun. Greenwood is still good, but things are building in unexpected ways!!!!
