Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Medicine started 2018 – 2019 Academic Year with its new students. Sixty prospective physicians took the stage to swear the “Medical Student Oath” at the White Coat Ceremony of IUE faculty of Medicine that took place at IUE Conference Hall.

All efforts to establish an “entrepreneurship center” at the former service building of Izmir Chamber of Commerce continue at full steam. After a visit paid to Cisco Innovation Center by a delegation from Izmir Chamber of Commerce, the second meeting took place at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) chaired by Mahmut Özgener,  Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees.  

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) welcomed the new academic year with its more than 10 thousand students with a Can Bonomo concert. The University organized a “Welcome Day” event for its students starting education in 2018 - 2019 Academic Year.  

Young entrepreneurs are steering their projects through Technology Transfer Office of Izmir University of Economics (IUE). The youth, who wants to implement their project, received mentorship support as part of “The Youth Entrepreneurship Support Program”, co-organized by Izmir University of Economics and Izmir Institute of Technology.

Hakan Kayan, who graduated from Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) as a top student, qualified for a Master’s and Ph.D. scholarship at England’s University of Surrey, one of the 14 Academic Centers of Excellence in Cyber Security Research. Kayan will specialize in security systems and applications for 4 years.

Textile objects left to perish are returning to life. 100 to 150 year old textile objects such as carpets, bedspreads, curtains, embroidered bundles, etc. are being conserved at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) by the Department of Textile Conservation, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Finland. Weak and damaged parts of the objects are being salvaged and conserved.

On Friday, September 21, teen idol Can Bonomo will take the stage for its fans at IUE Amphitheatre at 9 p.m., and sing the songs written and composed by him.   

As the fish counters are overflowing with fish with lifting of fishing ban, it has been reported that Turkish public do not consume enough fish, which is a very rich source of Omega-3.  According to 2017 Turkish Seas Report, global per capita fish consumption is 19.2 kg, 24 kg in European Union, whereas per capita fish consumption in Turkey is only as high as 7.6. The experts state that fish consumption has a preventative and curative effect on cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, depression, and mental diseases, and they strongly urge people to eat fish. 

She crowned female beauty with accessories; her designs became an important source of income for homemakers. Özüm Yelkencioğlu, Graduate of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), provided employment for over 20 women with her handmade belts under the brand of “Katun”.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is getting ready to start the new academic year with changes. Prof. Murat Borovalı has been given the responsibility to coordinate IUE Board of Trustees, academic and administrative units, and restructure the University. Prof. Dr. Borovalı, Professor of Political Science, pointed that Izmir University of Economics was the rising university of a rising city. Prof. Borovalı said, “We are going to take steps forward and improve the potential of the University so it can take its well-deserved place among the institutions that serve the region and future of the nation”.
