A MUSICAL FAREWELL
She completed her education-blended with music-on stage. Beliz Erkmen from Department of International Trade and Finance, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) shared her joy of graduation with the songs she sang to the audience before the graduation ceremony. Erkmen, who had been a soloist for 5 years at Group Turuncu, music band led by IUE Music Consultant Alasker Abbasov, sent off IUE graduates, with their families, to their new journeys in business life.
GRADUATES OF IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS ENTERED THE BUSINESS WORLD
2018 graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) entered the business world. One thousand 495 students, who have completed the 2017 – 2018 Academic Year successfully, were awarded their diplomas at the ceremony that took place at IUE Amphitheatre. At the end of the ceremony, the graduates proudly threw their caps into the air as they sang the 10th Year March.
BASIC TRAINING FOR FUTURE ENGINEERS
Future engineers learned about introduction to topics such as machine learning, robot development, medical physics, etc. from its experts. 30 students rolled their sleeves up to become scientists of the future at TESLA Lab of Faculty of Engineering; Izmir University of Economics (IUE) within the “Dâhilerin Gözünden Bilim ve Teknoloji (Science and Technology through the Eyes of the Geniuses)” titled TUBITAK Project developed by Bornova Anadolu High school (BAL).
IMAGINATIVE SCIENCE
Children will be acquainted with science at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Kindergarten and elementary school students will develop creative thinking, problem-solving skills with the “Düşlerle Bilim (Imaginative Science)” project. 80 preschool and 80 elementary school students from Izmir will attend the training course that will take between the dates of 30 July – 10 August. FEEL CONFIDENT BEFORE YKS!
Almost 2 million 300 thousand candidates will be taking the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) that will be administered on June 30 and July 1. In order to overcome the feelings of stress and excitement, the experts state that students need to stay away from negative and pointless thoughts, and that having self-confidence in their knowledge would bring success.
IZMIR ECONOMICS: THE ADDRESS FOR ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS
Students of Department of Logistics Management, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) received their training certificates on “SAP” (Systems Applications and Products), used for production, stock, and number of goods sold, numbers of materials purchased, and follow up of staff and data control in companies. 43 students, who received SAP software training as part of the SAP – University Collaboration program by world’s largest inter-enterprise software company, are ready to enter the business world.
NUTRIENT OR POISON?
The experts point out that food contaminated by bacteria, viruses, parasites, or harmful chemicals causes over 200 diseases, from diarrhea to cancer, and people should pay close attention to facts such as expiration date, food preservation, etc. Department of Food Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) held "Food: Nutrient or Poison?" titled panel.
'WE NEED TO MAKE SERIOUS PROGRESS IN PhD EDUCATION'
Graduate School of Health Sciences, Izmir University of Economics held a “Graduate-Post Graduate Student Supervision in Biomedicine and Health Sciences: ORPHEUS Perspective” titled workshop. It has been pointed out that there were 430 thousand 215 Master’s students and 91 thousand 262 PhD students in 2016 – 2017 academic year in Turkey, and that serious progress was needed to be made in PhD programs.
COOPERATIVE BENEFITS
The shareholders of Tire Dairy Cooperative (Tire Süt Kooperatifi), which was awarded with the best rural development award by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), want their children to run the family business. Department of Sociology, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) conducted “A Sociological Research on Tire Dairy Cooperative” titled field study. The study revealed that 43.2% of the producers want their children to keep the business running.
LIFELONG LEARNING CENTER FOR URLA
Interior architects of Izmir University of Economics designed the Women Producer Market of Urla (Former Repair Shop) as a lifelong learning center. The project designed by second year students of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), allows the space to become more functionalized with different concepts for women, children, university students, and the elderly.
