Due to senseless consumption of non-prescription drugs, Turkey, who is getting ready for winter, loses its health and economy. The experts state that people use antibiotics for the slightest upper respiratory infection, and in the event of antibiotics resistance in Turkey increasing the way it is right now, by 2050, with a good scenario the country would experience an economic loss totaling 220 billion TL and in worst case scenario up to 1.4 trillion.

Scrap paper, waste fabrics, wood scraps have all been recycled, and the income from the sales of these products made the school of elementary students more beautiful. The Social Responsibility Project Group, consisting of faculty members and students of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, redesigned the training room at Izmir – Menderes Sancaklı Ahmetçik Elementary School. Students, with their brand new training room, started the new academic year excitedly.

Students of Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) entered the 11^th Istanbul International Architecture and Urban Films Festival Documentary and Animation Films Competition with their 10-minute short film “Çıkmaz Şehir: İzmir” (Izmir I Dead-end City). IUE students became a finalist among 910 films from 90 countries with their short film on Izmir’s urban transformation.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) started the 17^th Academic Year to train the future entrepreneurs, physicians. Students of IUE Faculty of Medicine put on their white coats at the first ceremony of the new academic year. Sixty prospective physicians, first students of IUE Faculty of Medicine, took the stage to swear “Medical Student Oath”. The second ceremony began with laying a wreath at Ataturk Monument at IUE Ceremony Field. Ekrem Demirtaş, IUE President of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, IUE Rector, academicians, graduates and students observed a moment of silence. Following the National Anthem, President Demirtaş and the Rector laid a wreath at Ataturk Monument.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Güzden Varinlioğlu, Lecturer, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), who is conducting studies on southern coastline of Turkey that is located on ancient maritime trade routes, is creating three-dimensional visuals of the wrecks. Asst. Prof. Dr. Varinlioğlu gathered the first phase of her research in a book titled, “Digital in Underwater Cultural Heritage”.

Turkey will be subject to heat waves throughout the weekend and next week despite the arrival of autumn. Turkish State Meteorological Service forecasts that temperatures will be about 6 to 10 degrees above seasonal averages, and due to extreme difference between day and night temperatures, health problems may be an issue, stated the experts.   

Turkish and Japanese industrial design students benefit from the power of design for “blue voyage” and “yacht charter market”, both of which are among the milestones of Turkish tourism industry. Turkish and Japanese design students, as part of the collaboration between Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Shizuoka University of Art and Culture, Japan, designed many details regarding blue voyages.  

The “Workshop on International Intellectual Property Law from the Perspective of Economic Growth and Welfare Sharing", conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Başak Bak, Lecturer, Faculty of Law, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and funded by British Council, brought the international academia working in the field of intellectual property law together.   

The new academic year is about to start for millions of students after a long summer holiday. The experts state that educators and parents have major responsibility during this time, and students with learning disabilities who are not diagnosed early, may have trouble and get cold feet about going to school.  

10-day-long National Holiday-starting with August 30, Victory Day and the Sacrifice of the Feast Holiday following that- put a smiling face on tourism professionals in Izmir. International travel search engine Skyscanner reported that tourists preferred to stay in Izmir the most following Antalya, and that the average period of stay in the city was 6.4 days. In addition, based on the statistics by Izmir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 201 thousand 526 tourists from Germany came to Izmir, and Iran followed Germany with 58 thousand 58 tourists for the period of January-August.
