Izmir University of Economics (IUE) became the 76^th academic institution with the most citations per faculty between the 2.938 universities across Eastern Europe and Central Asia. IUE also moved up to the 104^th place in faculty per student ratio, and #200-250  in general ranking conducted by QS World University Rankings 2018 Regional Ranking.   

IUE “paramedics” learn about saving patients, responding to emergencies, and transporting to hospitals on the field. Students of Paramedic Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), who take part in real life rescue scenarios, participated in a training drill where they had to rescue an injured person at a mountain. Students responded to the scene of the accident, and moved the patient to a safer place.

Özgün İnceoğlu, IUE Fashion Designer, who reflects the idea of freedom of women to her designs, came in second place with her “Athena” titled collection at the “7th Deri’n Fikirler” Leather Design and Production Contest held by Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Association.  Deri’n Fikirler (Profound Ideas- there is a word play in the Turkish name with “Deri” which means leather is associated with the word “derin” which means profound, deep), as of its objective, is a competition that has been implemented with the thought of adding values both to its participants and the future of the country.   

A system, which will be able to detect heart diseases through electrocardiogram (ECG) signals “beforehand”, has been developed. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Türker İnce, Head of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), developed a monitoring and advance warning system for heart diseases together with Prof. Dr. Moncef Gabbouj, Professor of Signal Processing at the Department of Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology, Tampere, Finland, and Prof. Dr. Serkan Kıranyaz, Department of Electrical Engineering, Qatar University.

The Russians will not get enough of Izmir. John Warren, the presenter of the, “Poedem, Poedim” (C’mon Let’s Eat) titled program being aired on Russia’s state TV channel, NTV, and his team, came to shoot promotional videos on Izmir and Aegean cuisine. During the shooting, Warren, who cooked delicious samples of Aegean meals-and tasted them- with Trainer Chef Tolgahan Kamiloğlu from Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Izmir University of Economics, referred to the city’s international slogan by saying, “You can’t get enough of Izmir”.

More than 300 hundred industrial engineering and business management students from various countries across Europe will discuss the future of their professions at Izmir University of Economics (IUE).  Members of the European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management Club (ESTIEM), one of the largest student communities across Europe, will be holding their council meeting at Izmir with the attempts of IUE students.

Online shopping can be disappointing if the clothes you ordered do not look or fit as you thought they would. 62.3% of internet customers bought clothes and sports goods, however, “unfitting clothes” affect shopping negatively.

Members of the French Travel Agents Association, who are in Izmir as the invitees of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, learned to cook the exquisite tastes of the Aegean Region. Group of 20 people visited Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and watched the preparation and cooking of Tarhana soup (a traditional, spicy Turkish soup common throughout Anatolia). The group later on prepared their own Tire meatballs (dish specific to Tire district of Izmir, grilled with a thickness of a pen on thin skewers) with the help of young chefs.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is developing nanomaterials for new equipment to be used in biomedical and defense industries. Asst. Prof. Dr. Özge Sağlam, Lecturer at IUE Faculty of Engineering, who is receiving a grant as part of TUBITAK 3501 Career Development Program, will produce multi-functional nanometer-thick sensors so that nanotechnology could be used more efficiently in Turkey. Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and technology conducted at the nanoscale, billionth of a meter.

Izmir business world is acting in solidarity in order to encourage young people to put their ideas into action. Melisa İtmeç, Business Development & Communication Specialist, EGIAD Melekleri, who attended the “Applied Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management” course taken by 315 students of Izmir University of Economics, stated that the city is eager to support the young entrepreneurs, and compared to cities like Istanbul, the competition in Izmir is much calmer.
