‘FASHION LOVED ART!’
Senior students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, completed their education journey with “Fashion Loves Art” titled fashion show. IUE students displayed the ready-to-wear clothing they designed based on the theme fashion loves art at the graduation fashion show at IUE Ceremony Field. Also, the graduation exhibition of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design students’ took place before the fashion show.
“POETIC DESIGN” BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
The “Arabian Nights” turned into an intercultural design. The “Binbir Gece (One Thousand and One Nights)” titled lighting design of Anıl Nayır, junior from Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Lisa Forte from University of Florence, was selected as the “Most Poetic Design”.
AWARDS FOR INNOVATIVE IDEAS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has been crowned with complete success of its future, entrepreneurial engineers. Students of IUE Faculty of Engineering collected awards at the “6th Young Minds, New Ideas Project Market and Graduation Projects Joint Exhibition”. IUE Engineers collected 5 out of 7 awards in different categories at the contest in which one thousand students participated with 232 projects.
DESIGN MET WITH TECHNOLOGY
Car interior design meets comfort. Didem Çiftçi, student from Department of Electrical and Electronics, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Emre İçöz, graduate, also from the same department, and Mert Gültekin, Master’s student at IUE Design Management Program, made custom design lighting for the car headliner by using LED technology.
URBAN CULTURE AT AN ONLINE GLANCE
Izmir’s cultural values, occupations, locations that are about to be forgotten came together in an online magazine. Arda Aydın, Ece Orus, and Tuğçe Vural, students from Department of Media and Communication, Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), gathered urban culture components together in a documentary magazine, titled arafdergi. Students report that they aim to transfer the real life experiences of the city, occupations and values that are about to be forgotten, to the next generation. They want to bring the past into the present based on stories of people.
THE CHINESE SPACE STATION TIANGONG 2 FLIES OVER TURKEY
The Satellite Tracking Group formed within the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics, observed the Chinese Space Station Tiangong 2 for approximately five minutes as it passed 380 km above Italy, Greece and Çanakkale, Turkey. Tiangong 2 reached a minimum distance of 480 km from Izmir as it flew over Turkey at 22.10.
PRODUCTIVE SOLUTIONS IN LOGISTICS
Students developed projects for university-industry collaboration, came up with solution recommendations for logistic concerns of companies as part of the innovative projects program held by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business, Department of Logistics Management. Students designed warehouse design, social media analysis, fleet size profiling, logistics process analysis and improvement for companies Arkas, Delphi, Türk Migros, Whirlpool, Tuborg, TPI, Havi Lojistik, and N11.com.
“ADA ORKESTRASI” TAUGHT ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS
Kindergarteners learned about environmental consciousness through a theater play. Students of Child Development Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) acted in “Ada Orkestrası (Island Orchestra)” titled children's musical for an audience of 300 kindergarteners from IZELMAN Kindergartens of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The kindergarteners both got acquainted with theater and learned about subjects as protecting the environment and helping each other.
GEN-Y STORIES
Generation Y transferred their imagination to paper, their stories became a book. 16 students, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Derya Duman, Lecturer, IUE Department of Translation and Interpretation, wrote stories as part of “Creative Writing” course, and brought their stories together in a book titled, “Y Kuşağı’ndan Öyküler (Gen-Y Stories)”. Students relayed topics like hope, love, wisdom, and doubts from the perspective of their generation. Young authors’ book, which reflects their determinism and strong character in the stories, met with the readers via Kafekültür Publications.
