Business ideas will take off with Turkish Airlines (THY). Successful business ideas on a wide variety of areas including artificial intelligence and wearable technology will be implemented by Turkish Airlines as part of the joint technology development program of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Embryonix Technology Transfer Office and THY. Following the applications by April 14, successful projects will be included in incubation program in May, and later on, projects to be selected at "Fusion Day" will get a chance to be implemented by Turkish Airlines.

Exquisite tastes of chocolate world were prepared by little hands. Children, with the guidance of students of Department of Culinary Arts and Management of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), baked sweets at Izmir Chocolate festival. IUE Chefs, who wanted to contribute to cognitive and fine motor skills of children, baked mosaic cake with the young ones.  

A protocol was signed between Faruk Aydın, Chairman of Executive Board of Turgutlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, for a bright future of Turgutlu youth. First degree blood relatives of members of Turgutlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry qualified for 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics as part of the protocol. Along with President Demirtaş and Aydın, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan attended the protocol ceremony that took place at Izmir University of Economics.  

The allergy season is knocking on our door with the arrival of the spring. Based on World Health Organization statistics, more than 20% of the world’s population suffers from allergy which causes symptoms such as itchiness, sneeze, runny or stuffy nose, cough, or itchy throat. The experts stated that the prevalence of allergies increased lately, and combining with environmental allergens such as pollens, pet dander, foods, heat, moisture, wind, and pressure, and global climate change had an influence on that.

Books stimulate children’s imagination, increase their thinking capacity, expand their vocabulary, and make learning the native language easier for them. Based on the data by Turkish Statistical Institute, Turkish people read 8.4 books per capita in a 78 million populated country. 2017 Performance Program, published by the Ministry of National Education, reveals that while the number of books per student at elementary school is 25, this number drops drastically as the students get older.

Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, Honorary Member of the Turkish Historical Society, pointed that education system in Turkey needed to be reexamined and he said, “Education is no joke”. Prof. Dr. Ortaylı, who was invited as the guest speaker by IUE Political Platform Club, stated that Turkey would take place among rare countries with young population.

Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design rolled their sleeves up in order to turn the historical TARİŞ building in Kuşadası into a “Zero Waste” restaurant. IUE designers developed projects for the historical building located in the 9 thousand 958-decare lot purchased by Aydın Metropolitan Municipality. The restaurant projects will prevent food waste and won’t harm the historical texture.

Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management visited Izmir Türk Koleji (ITK) Kindergarten and baked delicious cookies with tiny chefs. IUE Chefs baked cookies and cakes with small children in order to contribute to their cognitive and motor skills.

Waste fabrics, papers, plastics, old clothes were transformed into artwork for reuse. Lecturers and students of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), exhibited the costumes, clothes, notebooks, necklaces, pencil holders, lambs, dolls, and bags they designed out of waste materials obtained within the Faculty, at “Reclaim! Up Cycling Design Exhibition” titled event at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center. The exhibition will stay open until March 30.   

Education doesn’t count chromosomes. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services, Child Development Program welcomed kids with Down syndrome on campus. Students directed a program at mixing desk at the studios of IUE Faculty of Communication; they did experiments at the labs of IUE Medical Laboratory Techniques Program. Students also attended the paramedic course and tapped the rhythm in the music classes.
