HEALING HERBS OF THE AEGEAN
Aegean herbs such as blessed thistle, baby's tears, cibez (type of a cruciferous vegetable), stinging nettle, lamb's-ear, etc. are essential part of cuisines and spring diets. Aegean herbs and artichoke, which play a major part in Mediterranean-style eating, are good for strengthening digestive system, beautifying the skin, cleansing the liver, and playing a major role in the regression of cardiovascular diseases and hypertension.
IUE WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM AT 1st LEAGUE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Women’s Tennis Team swept all their opponents in the 2nd league games and got promoted to the 1st league. IUE Women’s Tennis Team ranked in first place among 44 university teams at the Turkish University Sports Federation 2nd League Tennis Games that took place in Antalya.
‘UNBURDENED EMOTIONS’
Students with special education needs proved that emotions are not hindered by disabilities. Students with autism and Down syndrome, receiving education at Ege Artı Special Education and Rehabilitation Center, who were invited by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services, Child Development Program, reflected their emotions such as happiness, sorrow, love, frustration, etc. to photographs. IUE Photography Studio hosted students whom modeled different emotions. Photographs of students will be displayed at an exhibition.
“ARTICHOKE” RECIPES BY CHEFS
Internationally recognized Michelin starred chefs will turn herbal medicine, artichoke, into a world cuisine flavor. The "3rd Urla International Artichoke Festival", co-organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Urla Municipality, Izmir University of Economics, and Reseau Delice Network of Gourmet Cities, will take place on April 28-30. Artichoke, an essential ingredient of the Aegean cuisine, will be re-interpreted by 25 famous chefs from 10 different cities at this year’s festival.
SMART PASSPORT FOR ANIMALS
Cattle will soon get NFC (near field communication) enabled passports. This way, information such as health status of animals, region they came from will be kept via NFC enabled labels. Lecturers of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) received patents for NFC Ear Tags and NFC Enabled Animal Passport. These two inventions will end the information chaos experienced in animal breeding, and accelerate control process.
IDEAS WILL BE TURNED INTO A PRODUCT
Business ideas will take off with Turkish Airlines (THY). Successful business ideas on a wide variety of areas including artificial intelligence and wearable technology will be implemented by Turkish Airlines as part of the joint technology development program of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Embryonix Technology Transfer Office and THY. Following the applications by April 14, successful projects will be included in incubation program in May, and later on, projects to be selected at "Fusion Day" will get a chance to be implemented by Turkish Airlines.
SWEET DISCOVERY OF MINI CHEFS
Exquisite tastes of chocolate world were prepared by little hands. Children, with the guidance of students of Department of Culinary Arts and Management of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), baked sweets at Izmir Chocolate festival. IUE Chefs, who wanted to contribute to cognitive and fine motor skills of children, baked mosaic cake with the young ones.
TURGUTLU WILL EXPAND WITH IUE STUDENTS
A protocol was signed between Faruk Aydın, Chairman of Executive Board of Turgutlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, for a bright future of Turgutlu youth. First degree blood relatives of members of Turgutlu Chamber of Commerce and Industry qualified for 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics as part of the protocol. Along with President Demirtaş and Aydın, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan attended the protocol ceremony that took place at Izmir University of Economics.
ALLERGY SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER
The allergy season is knocking on our door with the arrival of the spring. Based on World Health Organization statistics, more than 20% of the world’s population suffers from allergy which causes symptoms such as itchiness, sneeze, runny or stuffy nose, cough, or itchy throat. The experts stated that the prevalence of allergies increased lately, and combining with environmental allergens such as pollens, pet dander, foods, heat, moisture, wind, and pressure, and global climate change had an influence on that.
