TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION IS A MUST
Technological developments cause security measures to increase when it comes to using credit cards. The credit cards sent by banks will no longer be authorized for online shopping based on the decision by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK). New customers, upon receiving their cards, will have to call the customer services and give their approval for online use of their cards. Also, existing customers with credit cards will have to contact their banks by August 17 and inform them about their decision regarding online transactions. Prof. Dr. Hakan Yetkiner, Lecturer, Department of Economics, Izmir University of Economics, who commented on the BDDK decision, said that the measures were very timely; however, there was an urgent need for technology education in Turkey.

Nurten Öztürk, Founding Member of OPET Executive Board, stated that it was the major duty of adults to prevent the youth from getting lost in dark tunnels, and open their path to success. Öztürk, who addressed the students at the 2nd Human Resources Summit: Those Who Make a Difference titled event organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), stated that their story was not a fairytale, that as a teacher couple, she and her husband stood shoulder to shoulder and established OPET, a domestic investment company that ranks first in customer satisfaction for 11 years.
SHEDDING LIGHT ON THE FUTURE OF SCIENCE WORLD
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is shedding light on the dreams of young students who want to become the future aerospace engineers. Izmir University of Economics, who is dedicated to train and educate students who can establish and improve eco-friendly, safe, technologically and economically feasible aircrafts and space crafts and technologies that will be used in transportation, exploration, telecommunication, and in both national and universal defense at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, which admitted its first students this year, shared the dream of 8th grader Görkem Özgür Genç who wants to study the functioning of the universe. Genç, whom reached out to Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and told him about his project, was given the telescope as a present by Demirtaş that will help him carry out his research.
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR FOR FASHION DESIGN
Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, created a fashion feast at Agora Shopping Mall. Young designers created 96 different style designs from experimental outfits to costumes of movie heroes, and IUE student models displayed these designs on the runway. Also, Jörn Fröhlich’s, Lecturer, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), creation titled, “Spring Cleaning”, which includes 25 different designs he created with waste materials, attracted great attention.
YGS IS ONLY AN EXAM’
Prospective university students started the count down for Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS), the first step to overcome on the way to higher education. As 2 million 265 thousand 902 students enrolled for the exam, the experts strongly remind that the “exam is not a matter of life and death, that it is just an exam”.
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR TO SHOE INDUSTRY
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Vocational School, Footwear Design and Manufacturing Program is making a difference at Izmir Footwear Fair, an organization which is very significant for the industry. The program, which enrolled its very first students this year, is displaying their designs to the representatives of the industry and the young designers are getting job proposals onsite at their booth which draws great attention. Their booth is the only one which is represented by an education institution unlike others that are represented by footwear industry.
IUE AT TURKEY FINAL
Students of Faculty of Business, Izmir University of Economics, ranked among the top five in Turkey final selections for CFA Research Challenge organized by Chartered Financial Analyst – CFA. 2 thousand 500 teams worldwide are competing against each other to make it to the final of the challenge held annually.
A FIRST BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS AT THE FESTIVAL
The bands Odyø Vijul and Expérience Limite, made up of faculty members and students of Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Communication, and Department of Psychology, performed at the 24th Izmir European Jazz Festival organized by Izmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education (IKSEV) with the support of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
JAPANESE LOVE OF NATURE BROUGHT SECOND PRIZE
Japanese education brought second prize to Zeynep Acarlı, senior student at IUE Department of Visual Communication Design, at the Japanese Speech Contest. Acarlı, who takes Japanese as a second foreign language, expressed the Japanese love of nature at the ‘Japan from My Window: Introducing Japan and Japanese Speech Contest’ with her “Hanafuda: Traditional Japanese Card Game” titled presentation and came in second place.
