ENTREPRENEURHIP CERTIFICATES FOR IUE STUDENTS
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) developed business models at “Applied Entrepreneurship Course”’. Students, who successfully completed the course, received their certificates from Recep Özçevik, KOSGEB South Regional Manager, Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, IUE Rector, and Prof. Dr. Hasan Fehmi Baklacı, Dean of IUE Faculty of Business, and qualified to receive the applied entrepreneurship support by KOSGEB (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Development Organization). Students, who want to turn their business ideas into reality, will be receiving a total of 150 thousand TL; 50 TL of which will be given as a grant and the remaining 100 thousand TL will be given as an interest-free loan to be paid back in 54 months.
FAMILY MEALS STRENGTHEN BONDS WITH CHILDREN’
We love to eat together. Family Structure Survey, co-conducted by Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and Ministry of Family and Social Policies, revealed that proportion for households’ coming together on the weekday dinners was 78.2%, and it was 83.1% for the weekend dinners. While the proportion of meeting at breakfast was 43.4% on the weekdays, it was 72.3% on the weekends. The experts emphasize the positive effect of having family meals on children and youth.
LEARNING A LANGUAGE IMPROVES BRAIN
Speaking a language allows us to use both hemispheres of the brain. The research, conducted by Dr. Filiz Mergen, Lecturer at Vocational School, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), revealed that speed of word recognition and rate of accuracy of words in two languages for bilingual people (those speak Turkish and English in this study) were the same. The study also revealed that the speed of word recognition for individuals, who only spoke Turkish, was higher in left hemisphere of the brain.

Leading managers of the business World will be sharing their experiences with young generations at the “2nd Human Resources Summit”, organized under the leadership of IUE Faculty of Business for human resources managers and employees.
THE FIRST TRAINER OF THE CHILD IS THE MOTHER
Children in Turkey receive initial training at home. The study on Family Structure in Turkey, co-conducted by Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) and the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, revealed that 86% of mothers undertook the responsibility of caring for their children aged between 0 and 5 years. It was seen that after mothers, the day care was undertaken mostly by grandmothers with 7.4%, while the proportion of day care performed by nursery or kindergarten was 2.8%. The experts draw attention to the significance of training during this period.
FAST AND POWERFUL ELECTRIC CAR
Students of Izmir University of Economics will develop their own electric cars. IUE students, who participated in the electric car contest, held by TUBITAK, with their team titled “Ecowheel”, received total of 35 thousand TL support to build their car. The team, consisting of students of IUE Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, is developing their electric cars for the contests to be held on August 21 – 27, an event being held since 2005 with the purpose of contributing to technological development, creating awareness on alternative, clean energy sources, and bringing in vocational experience to students. The team of 25 people will be representing Izmir University of Economics at the "TUBITAK Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle" contest.
BEAUTY AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
Beauty industry goes digital. Fırat Turan, graduate of IUE Department of Computer Engineering, and Murat Yaşar, graduate of IUE Department of Mathematics, brought over 65 beauty enterprises in Izmir such as beauty salons and hairdressers, etc. together under a mobile application they developed and named “Vigo”. Those, who download the app on their device, keep a tap on the latest beauty trends, and get an online appointment from a beauty enterprise they want. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, visited Turan and Yaşar at their booth at Izmir University of Economics and supported them.
THE JOURNEY OF DESIGN FROM IZMIR TO GERMANY
The stages in Germany are being designed by IUE fashion designers. Jörn Fröhlich, lecturer, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and Cansu İncesu, graduate from the same department, designed the costumes and stage of the Chawwerusch Theater in Germany.
E3 PLATFORM AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
US Embassy Ankara and Turkish American Association set up "E3 Platform" booth at Izmir University of Economics to answer questions about “English, Education, Entrepreneurship” topics. John Bass, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, IUE Rector, academicians and students attended the opening of the event.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS SUCCESS IN FASHION
Students studying at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, shape the future of fashion through the power of design. The designs of young fashion designers, as a result of the quality education they receive from national and foreign national academicians, received awards at the 11th IF Wedding Fashion Izmir - Wedding Dresses, Suits, and Evening Gowns Fair. 5 out of 15 finalists were from Izmir University of Economics. Ece Metiner and Fulya Civaroğlu, both graduates of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, came in second and third place respectively.
