TOWARDS AN ECO-FRIENDLY ERA IN ENERGY
Turkey's electricity import, in the first quarter of this year, has reached to $30 million 594 thousand 671. While there is a 36% decrease in electricity import compared to last year same quarter, to reduce these rates much further, IUE engineers developed an electricity generation system by using eco-friendly and renewable energy sources.
INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO FORGOTTEN TASTES
Traditional flavors are being cooked over wood fire by a next generation chef. Entrepreneurial Chef Onur Canbulat, Graduate, Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), is serving his guests at “Lokanta Levan” where he cooks delicious food over wood fire combining traditionalism and creativity.
‘CONSTRUCTING THE FUTURE ON SCIENCE’
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), contributing to Turkey’s scientific power through an international education system, will start 2017 – 2018 academic year with new departments and programs. Students joining Izmir University of Economics community in the new academic year will receive a next generation medical training. Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Medicine will admit 60 students. Also, Departments of Physics, Mathematics, and Economics, and Call Center Services, Retail and Retail Management, Legal Office Management and Secretariat, Computer Programming (evening education), and Graphics Design (evening education) programs will start education with their first students this year.
JOURNEY TO WORLD FLAVOURS BEGINS AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management is getting ready to train the young chefs who can learn the exquisite flavors of Turkish and Aegean cuisine, and promote it to the whole world. The prospective students will start their education under the guidance of famous chefs after an aptitude test, a test only administered by IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management. The deadline for pre-registrations is set as July 21.
’NAMES OF JULY 15TH MARTYRS IN THE SKY’
The names of July 15th Martyrs of Democracy were released into the sky with a high altitude balloon developed by students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE). The high altitude balloon, containing the Turkish Flag and the names of martyrs of Democracy, rose into the sky with the participation of Erol Ayyıldız, Governor of Izmir, Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, IUE Rector and academicians and students.
IDEAS ARE TURNING INTO PRODUCTS
Turkish Airlines (THY) are turning the ideas of young people into reality. THY, with collaboration of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Embryonix Technology Transfer Office, is supporting projects of the future. Gizem Acar Yavuz, who made a presentation at the “Technology Development Program: From Idea to Product” passed the initial stage and came in first place with her “Coffee Art Machine” titled project, whereas Can Dörtkardeşler came in second place with his “Udentify” titled project.
NEW GENE DISCOVERED TO IDENTIFY PLANT IRON DEFICIENCY
Extreme fatigue and weakness, loss of hair, cold hands and feet are among the symptoms of “iron deficiency”, world’s most common nutritional disorder. Lack of iron in your diet is the major cause of this disease also known as “anemia”, and one out of three people are anemic. The experts point that we fail to get iron from the foods we eat, and they are looking for new ways to fix this. Promising outcomes were obtained from a research conducted by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) where a new gene has been found.

Experienced experts are supporting prospective students to make the right education choices at Izmir University of Economics. The expert guidance counselors, in addition to 60 students and all academic units, are providing guidance services to the prospective university students at IUE Conference Hall at 14 guidance and information tables. Students will be informed about their dream occupations as part of the “Izmir University of Economics Prospective Student Counseling Days” event which will go on until July 26, 2017.
SLEEP MONITORING DEVICE FOR CHILDREN
Children will get enough sleep. Nektar Ege Altıntoprak, student at Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), designed a “sleep device”, consisting of a smart alarm and an ankle band for children aged 8 – 12 in order to prevent bed-wetting.
MORE COMFORTABLE WAY TO DEAL WITH TRAVEL FATIGUE
Extended waiting at airports is no longer a hassle. Ece Mercan, student from Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), designed a sleeping capsule for airports. Particularly, passengers, who have long stopover times or experience extended waiting, will be able to use “Napport”, the sleeping capsule, for sleeping and relaxation, working, or changing clothes.
