Turkish and Japanese industrial design students benefit from the power of design for “blue voyage” and “yacht charter market”, both of which are among the milestones of Turkish tourism industry. Turkish and Japanese design students, as part of the collaboration between Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Shizuoka University of Art and Culture, Japan, designed many details regarding blue voyages.  

The “Workshop on International Intellectual Property Law from the Perspective of Economic Growth and Welfare Sharing", conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Başak Bak, Lecturer, Faculty of Law, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and funded by British Council, brought the international academia working in the field of intellectual property law together.

The experts state that educators and parents have major responsibility during this time, and students with learning disabilities who are not diagnosed early, may have trouble and get cold feet about going to school.

International travel search engine Skyscanner reported that tourists preferred to stay in Izmir the most following Antalya, and that the average period of stay in the city was 6.4 days. In addition, based on the statistics by Izmir Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 201 thousand 526 tourists from Germany came to Izmir, and Iran followed Germany with 58 thousand 58 tourists for the period of January-August.

New generation of pharmacy services will minimize patient problems and accelerate the procedure. Patients will be able to enter their prescription code and receive their medicine in no time thanks to the mobile application titled, “Eczane (Pharmacy)”, developed by Osman Sabri Bilgiç, Graduate, Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE).

Criminals, fugitives will be monitored by “drones” (unmanned aerial vehicle) designed specifically for the police. Mustafa Murat Bilir, Graduate, Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), designed drones for new generation police officers by taking the hardships go through into consideration.   

Discovery in DNA sequencing will open the door to cancer treatment. In his research, Asst. Prof. Dr. Osman Doluca, Lecturer, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), proved that the key structure he found in the DNA of E.coli bacteria can change due to excess potassium or magnesium.

Tekeli is getting its new touch thanks to IUE designers. The town will have a new look as part of the “Tekeli Town Square and Surroundings Upgrade Project” carried out within IUE Design Research and Application Center (EKOTAM).  

Power of design is reflected on theater. While the German theater group ‘Theater Spiellust’ brought Alice in Wonderland to the stage, costume and stage designs were entrusted with IUE designers. Jörn Fröhlich, lecturer, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and Cansu İncesu, graduate from the same department, designed the costumes of the play which will premier in August 2018 and suited the hairdo’s and make-ups with the costumes.

Studies for immobilized or paralyzed patients take on new dimensions day by day. A program moving virtual robotic arms on computer screen via brain waves was designed at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yuriy Mishchenko, Lecturer at IUE Department of Biomedical Engineering, developed a robotic hardware that would enable movements of patients in real life with his TUBITAK funded project.
