IUE WILL DESIGN FOR DENTUR BOATS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is bringing a breath of fresh air into Istanbul Bosporus marine transportation through design. Interior design of 14 double ended boats of DenturAvrasya will be carried out by IUE EKOTAM Design Research and Application Center. The project will come into service next year and next generation boats will carry passengers of the Bosporus.

The experts strongly warn against purchasing olive oil, one of the most essential ingredients of Mediterranean cuisine,in pet bottles or clear glass bottles. Mehmet Özgü Manisalı, Graduate of Izmir University of Economics and Creator of ‘Özem Zeytinyağları’ (Olive Oils) stated that the product spoiled as it stood on the shelves and the healthy phenolic compounds disappeared.
TESLA BUST AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
The Tesla Statue, donated to Izmir University of Economics (IUE) by Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Istanbul,and USA Tesla Science Foundation, will represent the power of the creative spirit. Known for his many experiments and inventions on electricity, Nikola Teslawill shed light on the world of science.
MAP OF NEEDS
Needs goto those who need them via “map”. İhtiyaç Haritası' (Map of Needs), who is founded by Actor Mert Fırat, is a web platform (www.ihtiyacharitası.org) to connect those in need of something with others who can help. The site, whichreached to almost 10 thousand volunteers in one month, posted needs for 3 thousand 500 people, and almost 2 thousand 500 of the need requests were fulfilled. Various needs including coats, shoes, purses, bags, even carpets for mosques are supplied for those who need them thanks to the benefactors. Calls to requests are increasing each passing day.
‘KEEP YOUR MORALE UP’
As 1 million 174 thousand 427 eight grade students and their parents are getting more anxious before the TEOG exam (placement to middle school exam), the experts are suggesting to keep the morale up and adopt and keep a positive attitude.Students will be getting tested on the subjects such as Turkish grammar and literature, mathematics, science andtechnology, foreign language, religionand ethics, and History of Revolution and Kemalism on November 25 – 26.
RESISTANCE TO ANTIBIOTICS, A MAJOR CONCERN
As antibiotics resistance becomes a significant health concern, Ministry of Health data shows that daily amount of dose consumed per thousand people raised to 42.28% in Turkey. This, compared to European countries, reveals a high consumption of antibiotics in Turkey. Belgium consumes 28.4%, Bulgaria 18.2%, Austria 14.9%, Germany 14.5%, and England consumes 18.6% daily amount of dose of antibiotics. The experts are strongly warning that resistance to antibiotics became stronger every day and “it would be too late” if no immediate precautions are taken now.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP TOWARDS THE NEW WORLD
The seminar for Rotary International District 2440, hosted by Izmir University of Economics, discussed different perspectives in entrepreneurship under the title of "New World". Ersan Odaman, President of Buca Rotary Club, Yoga Trainer Melis Karacasulu, Ulaş Birant, District Ryla Chair, Banu Türkeli Baysak, President of Rotary International District 2440 Interact Committee, Niyazi Koçak, Education and Organizaitonal Development Leader attended the seminar as guest speakers. Ferudun Tuncer, CEO of Baydöner (Chain Restaurants), talked about his brand’s expanding process and his entrepreneurship adventure. Levent Gökçeer, Secretary General of IUE, delivered “Entrepreneurship” titled speech where he mentioned that quality education brought success for an entrepreneur
A 15 YEAR LATE “APOLOGY” BY SUMERBANK EMPLOYEES
Sümerbank’s fabrics, outfits, home textile products, all part of our recent history, are being displayed as part of “Fashioning a Nation: Sümerbank Textile Patterns Exhibition between 1956-2000” titled exhibition at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center, which is organized by Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design. Former employees of Halkapınar Sümerbank attending the exhibition opening had emotional moments when they saw that the past came to life, and extended their apologies to Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees.
KITCHENS WILL GET ‘SMART’
Questions such as ‘Did I leave the burner on, my child wants to cook at home, how I can support him/her via video when I am not home, there is someone at the door, wondering who came, etc.’ will all be answered thanks to a ‘KitchConn’ project developed by IUE students. Kitchens are getting smarter with software and hardware based project. Spending time in kitchen will be more comfortable, safe, and cost efficient.
