Izmir Chamber of Commerce Health and Education Foundation, the founding organization of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), welcomed 2016 with its members at a New Year’s party. The members enjoyed a night of dances and songs, and wished each other a happy new year at the party held at IUE Conference Hall hosted by Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of the Executive Board of ITO Health and Education Foundation. Chairman Demirtaş and the members of the Executive Board cut the New Year’s cake together. Rebii Akdurak, Chairman of ITO Council, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Prof. Dr. Attila Sezgin, former Rector of IUE (2001-2011), members and spouses ITO Health and Education Foundation, and guests attended the party.
 

Parents’ ‘where is my child?’ question will be answered. Entrepreneurial students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) developed software informing parents about their children’s whereabouts so that they can find relief.
 

Students are being educated on violence against women. 80 female students in 11^th grade at Izmir Salih Dede High School learn about ways to protect them from violence, develop self-awareness, and raise social awareness as part of the project led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Oruç Ertürk, Director of Izmir University of Economics Continuous Education Centre (IUECEC).
 

Turkey’s first domestic 3 D printer received the "IT 2015 Service Awards Innovative Projects" award given by Informatics Association of Turkey. The 3 dimensional printer, “Bigg”, produced by Tesla Teknik-one of the first companies of Izmir Bilimpark (IUE techno park)-under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, IUE Vice Rector, has been selected as an innovative project. Prof. Dr. AşkarandTelsaTeknikManagerGökhanŞener received the award given by SalihÖzçiftçi, Member of Executive Board of Informatics Association of Turkey.  

Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, are getting ready to create a fashion feast at Agora Shopping Mall. Works of young designers will be showcased on the runway in two parts at 18.00 and 20.00 respectively on Friday, December 25 at 2015 Fall Semester Fashion Show.

Academic collaboration between Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Georgia State University (GSU) will allow joint undergraduate programs, summer school, and student-academician exchange. Prof. Dr. OğuzEsen, IUE Rector andProf. Dr. Mark Becker, Georgia State University (GSU) Rector, signed the protocol which will be in effect in 2016 at the ceremony took place at IUE Board of Trustees Hall. 

Difficulties of being a disabled child in Turkey have been discussed at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Disabled students performed a Zeibek dance, and unfurled a flag after their performance which was admired by the audience greatly. 

Exquisite tastes of Izmir, a member of DELICE Network of Gourmet Cities, were brought to the table at the International Gastronomic Tourism Congress. The congress which was held at Fuar Izmirwas a sight to see with different booths offering different tastes. Jean Michel Daclin, President of DELICE Network of Gourmet Cities, said that the rich cuisine culture of Izmir definitely needed to be used in promoting the city.

Safety consultants for hazardous substances are being trained at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). IUE became the first authorized university by The Ministry of Transportation, Maritime, and Communications to offer training on hazardous substances. The candidates, then, take the exam conducted by the Ministry, and start working as safety consultants. The expert academicians at IUE Continuous Education Center (IUECEC) provide 49-hour training. 

Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, shared his experiences with gifted children. President Demirtaş visited Konak Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi (Art and Science Center) which is serving 540 students at the building of Alsancak Meliha Özakat Elementary School. Demirtaş, who visited the students in their classrooms, advised students to chase their dreams.
