Turks loved online shopping. According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, 33.1% of internet users bought goods or services over the internet.  57.4% of internet customers bought clothes and sports goods, 27% of that travel arrangements (transport tickets, car rentals, etc.), 25.5% of that household goods, 22.4% of that electronic equipment, 18.4% of that books, magazines, newspapers (including e-books). As e-shopping increased, it brought along legal arrangements. Internet shopping in Turkey is now much safer.

Children, who receive good care and preschool education, turn into creative, productive individuals with high self-esteem. Parents tend to think like, ‘we have grandma at home’, ‘I can hire a babysitter’, and sometimes they decide not to send their children to preschool because of financial hardship. However, the experts point out the importance of pre-school education between the ages of 0-6 in terms of supporting the child socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and linguistically, and they say that “Preschool education is a must”.
 

Sümerbank fabrics, which left their mark in every household in Turkey, will come to life again in the hands of Izmir University of Economics lecturers. Many products, from outfits to furnishings, are being manufactured again by Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design for the exhibition that will open in November. Exact replicas of fabrics manufactured in Sümerbank’s Izmir Halkapınar Facilities in 1950 – 2000 and donated to the University are being printed and sawn as part of the “Establishing Digital Textile Design Archive and Virtual Museum” titled project.   
 

Poor eyesight has negative effect on school success. If your child is experiencing responses such as moving head, lifting up chin, squinting, and blinking there is a possibility he/she has problems with quality of their eyesight. Hasan Durmuş, Lecturer at Opticianry Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics, stated that parents usually failed at detecting their children’s possible vision problems which caused decline in their school success.

As the social media is becoming a major part of our lives bairam celebrations are becoming virtual. Traditions such as visiting the elders and making the children happy with pocket money are out and posting celebration messages on social media is in.  Asst. Prof. Dr. Yeşim Kaptan, Lecturer at Department of Public Relations, Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics, reported that social media and media technologies played a major part in our daily lives, celebrating special days and holidays changed and became too virtual. She pointed that bairam celebrations once meant family reunions, however, today all celebrations took place on social media and face-to-face communication became a thing in the past.  
 

Poisoning cases are increasing due to misinformation or lack of information about meat preserving during the Feast of the Sacrifice, or Kurban Bairam. The experts are warning about possible food poisonings because the resting, chopping, dispersing, and freezing the meat is not done properly after the animal is butchered.  
 

Turkey’s population is getting older rapidly. In Turkey, where there is increase in illnesses due to old age, it is expected that the proportion of elderly population (65 and over) will rise to more than 10% in 2023 according to the population projection by Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The experts stated that dementia would increase rapidly and they indicated that according to the causes of death statistics, while the proportion of elderly population who died from Alzheimer’s disease was 3.4% in 2012, this proportion increased to 3.6% in 2013.
 

Tables will get enriched by French dishes. Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management are performing their internship in France for 3 months as part of the agreement with Les Toques Blanches Lyonnaises established by world famous chefs of France. 20 IUE prospective chefs are learning the art of cuisine at Michelin Starred restaurants from the world famous chefs in Lyon, France.  
 

Asst. Prof. Dr. Esra Katıman, Lecturer, IUE Faculty of Law, reported that 28 EU countries, which convened upon European Commission’s urgent call on September 14 in order to discuss the refugee crisis, could not reach an agreement on how to relocate 120 thousand Syrian refugees. Asst. Prof. Dr. Esra Katıman commentated on the ‘drama of humanity’ the Syrian refugees are facing after fleeing from their war- torn countries and trying to set up new lives. Katıman stated that European Union needed to increase measures initially, and make ‘right to live’-a universal principle, priority by leaving the national immigration law aside, and find solutions.
 

With the end of the seasonal fishing ban, the counters are overloaded with fish; however, Turks do not consume enough fish-significant sources of omega-3 fats. As fish consumption per person is 25 kg in USA, Canada, and many European countries, it is only 6kg per person in Turkey. We eat 1 fish in our country surrounded by water on three sides, and developed countries eat 4 times as much.
