PROTECT YOURSELF FROM HEPATITIS BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE
It has been reported that there are 3 million people with Hepatitis B, almost 750 thousand people with Hepatitis C, and about 17 million unregistered people living with hepatitis in Turkey. July 28 is observed as World Hepatitis Day by World Health Organization and World Hepatitis Alliance to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, and to call for access to treatment.
“TALISMANIC SHIRTS” AGAINST VIOLENCE
Talismanic shirts will be on display against violence. Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, and Lecturer Jovita Sakalauskaite Kurnaz created talismanic shirts out of white shirts donated by 65 women. The shirts will be on display at “Korku ve Çaresizliğin Yadsınması: Tılsımlı Gömlekler (Talismanic Shirts: Denial of Fear and Desperation)” titled exhibition for the first time in Lithuania. The exhibition will take place at Kaunas College - University of Applied Sciences Art Gallery in Lithuania on August 15.
STUDENTS WHO WILL CONSTRUCT THE FUTURE ARE AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics is getting ready to welcome one thousand 734 new students based on the undergraduate placement results announced by OSYM (Student Selection and Placement Centre). Izmir University of Economics, with one thousand 171 undergraduate and 563 associate program placements, will be training students who will construct the future. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, stated that Izmir Economics, first foundation university of Aegean Region, did not get off track toward achieving its goal to train entrepreneurial youth since its establishment.
‘TOUCH OF REALITY ON SURFACES’
Walls are freshening up via surface designs. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ebru Corsini, Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, is creating 3D designs on walls and making the surfaces turn into sky, marble, or flower gardens. Corsini is adding reality perception on surfaces via art of painting, and mesmerizing the viewers in Milan, Parma, Como, Monza, Switzerland Saint Moritz, and Turkey with her work of art.
THE FUTURE FASHION DESIGNERS FROM IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is getting ready to host future fashion designers. IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design started pre-registrations to admit students through an aptitude test. The deadline for pre-registrations is July 29.
IZMIR FOLKS LIKE TO EAT OUT
Izmir residents eat out and try out the new restaurants. Talha Serdar Sezen’s, student at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management, “Dining Habits in Izmir” titled thesis focuses on eating and drinking habits of urban people. The study, including 600 participants living in Izmir, revealed that 57% of them preferred to try out the newly opened restaurants and another 60.5% of them went out to eat during weekdays. While 46.7% stated that they went out for dinner, 42.4% said they ate their lunch out, and only 4.5% of them went out for breakfast.
SMART SOLAR BENCHES
Solar panels will charge smart equipment on benches and provide lighting at night time. Outdoor furniture designed by Aylin Ertürk, Student at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, will use solar energy to provide lighting and charge phones or tablets at the same time.
GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE REQUIRED FOR GOLDEN YEARS
It has been stated that the elderly was more prone to getting into depression as their quality of life decreased. The research conducted by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services revealed that level of income, lack of education, sedentary life style, and chronic diseases were among the main factors that triggered depression among old people.
UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SUPPORT TO SUMMER SCHOOL
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) School of Foreign Languages (SFL) is hosting 6 students from USA at summer school as part of the co-operation protocol signed with University of Michigan. Students of School of Literature, Science and the Arts at University of Michigan will be teaching assistants throughout the summer school courses. The program is carried out by Asst. Prof. Evrim Üstünlüoğlu, Director of IUE SFL, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aynur Kaynardağ, Vice Director of IUE SFL, and Dr. Esin Çağlayan, Head of English Preparatory Program.
