GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE REQUIRED FOR GOLDEN YEARS
It has been stated that the elderly was more prone to getting into depression as their quality of life decreased. The research conducted by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services revealed that level of income, lack of education, sedentary life style, and chronic diseases were among the main factors that triggered depression among old people.
UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SUPPORT TO SUMMER SCHOOL
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) School of Foreign Languages (SFL) is hosting 6 students from USA at summer school as part of the co-operation protocol signed with University of Michigan. Students of School of Literature, Science and the Arts at University of Michigan will be teaching assistants throughout the summer school courses. The program is carried out by Asst. Prof. Evrim Üstünlüoğlu, Director of IUE SFL, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aynur Kaynardağ, Vice Director of IUE SFL, and Dr. Esin Çağlayan, Head of English Preparatory Program.
JAPANESE DESIGN APPROCAH
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will perform internship in the field of design at Chiba University with an 80% scholarship provided by the Japanese Government. 7 Turkish students will get a chance to observe Japanese design approach up close and review the architectural work as part of the Exchange/Communication Program between IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Chiba University Department of Architecture.

The experts strongly believe that sedentary lifestyle, for kids, is one of the most important risk factors that threaten health especially during summer time. They indicate that such a lifestyle causes obesity, attention deficit disorder, and paves the way for diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and stroke.

Hüseyin Sarıbaş, Chairman of Burhaniye Chamber of Commerce and IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen signed a protocol for the youth of Burhaniye. First degree blood relatives of members of Burhaniye Chamber of Commerce qualified for 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics as part of the protocol.

As the Sugar Feast is only a few days away, the experts warn that switching back to old eating habits after a month of fasting might cause digestion problems. Funda İfakat Tengiz, Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics, Vocational School of Health Services, pointed that some health problems might be experienced caused by prolonged fasting and dehydration due to Ramadan. She said, “Eating lots of food after a prolonged eating bring along some indigestion problems. And switching back to regular eating habits as the Ramadan is over might cause digestion problems”.
‘TURKS PURSUE DISCOUNTS WHEN IT COMES TO SHOPPING’
Turks pursue discounts and make supermarket price comparisons when it comes to shopping. The “Consumer Logistics in Turkey” titled project, co-coordinated by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Logistics Management and Bremen University Department of Logistics revealed that consumers preferred supermarkets that are walking distance to their homes.
TOUCH OF DESIGN ON MENEMEN POTTERY
Menemen pottery is making an international debut through design. First samples of the “Proposal on Development Model Based on Design in Restructuring Cultural Industries: Menemen Pottery” titled research project, which is co-developed by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design and Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw, are ready.
SMART SOLUTION IN LOGISTICS
Shipment to Europe will be solved by the “Loan Consolidation and Loading Planning Research Project” developed by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Logistics Management. The TUBITAK project, which was co-developed by Dr. Ahmet Camcı, Research Assistant Sinem Tokçaer under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci, Lecturer at IUE Department of Logistics Management, with EKOL Logistics Company, aims to develop cost efficient load combining systems.
GUARANTEED EMPLOYMENT
Graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are above the average in Turkey with 85% employment rates. Based on the data by Turkish Statistical Institute (2014), employment rate of higher education graduates in Turkey was 71%. Statistics also revealed that the period of finding employment among individuals aged 20 – 24 was 7.3 months in Turkish workforce whereas it was about 4 months for the graduates of IUE. “Employment Report on Graduates of Izmir University of Economics” titled study revealed that 12.7% of the graduates were entrepreneurs.
