IZMIR FERRIES GET REDESIGNED BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir ferry boats will get touch up by academicians and students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Materials selection for the deck and visualization for Hasan Tahsin ferry boat, which is being built at Çeksan Shipyard by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, is being carried out by IUE Yacht Design Master’s Program. The ferry boat, upon the completion of design work, will be setting sail and serving Izmir folks in September.
COASTAL CITIES TAKE THE LEAD IN DIVORCE
As Izmir becomes the second city after Antalya with the highest divorce rates, the experts indicate that the couples decide to get a divorce easily after they feel the quality of their marriage goes down. According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, marriage rates went down 0.1% in 2014, whereas divorce rates went up 4.5%. Antalya came in first place with 2.70 thousandths divorce rate, followed by Izmir with 2.68 thousandths, and Muğla with 2.51 thousandths in third place.
‘BIRIKIM/GATHERING’ by CANDIDATE ARCHITECTS
Candidate architects bring current solutions to urban transformation and historical regions of Izmir. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Architecture celebrated their 10th year with the design work by students regarding various regions of the city. Students displayed their projects about Bayraklı, Kadifekale, Basmane, Agora, and Kemeraltı at the “Birikim/Gathering” titled exhibition.
DESIGNS BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, AWARDS BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
High school students will design prom dresses. Students will design their own prom dresses at the “2nd Fashion Design Contest among High School Students” organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design.
IZMIR THROUGH THE LENS WILL LEAVE A MARK ON HISTORY
Izmir will be documented through photographs. 30 counties of Izmir will be photographed by 10 photography artists for one year as part of the “Fotoğraflarla Yaşanacak Şehir İzmir Projesi (A City Through Lens: Izmir) Project”, prepared through the collaboration of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), and the sector. Each of the artists will reflect 2 different counties to be determined as a result of lottery through their lens. Photographs will be handed out to the tourists along with CD’s and booklets both in Turkish and English. A new recollection of the city will be generated.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS COOPERATING WITH GAZI HOSPITAL IN HEALTH
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Health Sciences, and Vocational School of Health Services will get hands-on training at Gazi Hospital. A protocol on educational cooperation between Izmir University of Economics and Izmir Gazi Hospital was signed. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, Surgeon Salih Mertan, Chairman of Board of Directors of Gazi Hospital, Selim Amato, Vice Chairman of Board of Directors of Gazi Hospital, lecturers, physicians, and students attended the protocol ceremony.
TURKISH-GREEK FRIENDSHIP CELEBRATED
Theodore Tsakaris, Consul General of Greece in Izmir, stated that they’ve reached a $5 billion trading volume between Turkey and Greece, and 1 million 500 thousand tourists were visiting both countries in one year. National Holiday of Greece was celebrated with a reception that took place at Izmir University of Economics Conference Hall. Theodore Tsakaris, Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of the Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and President of IUE Board of Trustees, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Mustafa Tosun, Dikili Mayor, Gökhan Demirağ, Foça Mayor, Dahi Zeynel Bakıcı, Selçuk Mayor, Mehmet Ali Molay, Honorary Consul of Finland, and Kemal Anadol, former CHP Parliament for Izmir have attended the reception.
