INTERIOR ARCHITECTS CAME TOGETHER AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Interior architects came together at a colloquy where Iris Dunbar, President of the IFI (The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers), Sebastiano Renari, Roberto Lucena, and IFI authorities attended as part of the World Interiors Day celebrations. The future of the profession of interior architecture was discussed at the event organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, with collaboration of TMMOB- Chamber of Interior Architects of Turkey, Izmir Branch and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ö. Osman Demirbaş, Past Acting President of IFI Executive Board. Students and academicians asked questions to Dunbar at the “Talking Interiors (İç Mekanları Konuşmak / Konuşan İç Mekanlar)” titled event organized by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, Head of IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Research Assistant Seren Borvalı, Lecturer İpek Kaştaş, students Ozan Can Çiçek, Özün Özgen, and Pelin Saygı.
IUE HOLDS THE VICTORY IN PROJECT MARKET
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Engineering and Computer Sciences, Department of Software Engineering, returned with a championship award in sectorial category form "Young Minds, New Ideas Project Market" contest. Students came in first place with their “Smart Touch” project, intended for the visually impaired, at the contest hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and co-coordinated by Izmir Branch of Informatics Association of Turkey and Ege University EBILTEM – TTO. Also, the "Smart Pet Assistant" project developed for pets by the students of Department of Computer Engineering under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, Vice Rector of IUE, came in second place in sectorial category and first place by the visitor votes.
FASHION SHOW BY IUE!
Senior students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design displayed their designs with an awesome fashion show at “Pasaport Dalgakıran”. Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, who got inspired by Oscar Wilde’s ‘Gül ve Bülbül’ (The Nightingale and the Rose story), showcased their ready to wear outfits they at the graduation fashion show.
SCIENCE DAYS
Future scientists learned about basic chemical and microbiological properties of foods through series of lab experiments at the “Science Days” event organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Food Engineering. High school students extracted DNA from kiwi fruits; measured colored reactions in foods at the event which intended to teach different perspectives of food science to the students. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen also accompanied the students as they took their first steps into the world of science.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS WILL SUPPORT ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will receive support within the scope of TUBITAK’s 1601-Capacity Building for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Grant Program. IUE qualified to receive 100% grant for projects and education programs it carries out in order to instill perception of entrepreneurship and innovation. Total of 61 universities applied for this program.
INSPIRATIONAL DANCE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Folk Dances Club danced to raise awareness about substance dependence. Students got on stage as the ‘Memleketim’ song was playing, holding banners that said “No to substance dependency! Don’t become dependent. Become free” and they gave hope for the future of Turkey.
AWESOME FASHION SHOW AT THE DOCK
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design produces its 10th period graduates with “Hikâye Anlatma (Story Telling)” titled fashion show. Students will be showcasing their ready to wear outfits they got inspired by Oscar Wilde’s ‘Gül ve Bülbül’ (The Nightingale and the Rose story) at the graduation fashion show that will take place on June 5 at “Pasaport Dalgakıran” across from Izmir Chamber of Commerce.
‘LYS, A MEANS TO ACHIEVE GOALS’
As the prospective university students are up against a compelling exam in June, the experts state that Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS) should be perceived as a means to reach the goals. Merve Yavuz, IUE Psychological Development and Counseling Centre Coordinator, who pointed that the students needed to keep a positive way of mind, stated that the exam was not a matter of life or death, and the last days before the exam should be spent by relaxing and taking it easy.
SOLUTION PROVIDERS
The “3rd Industrial Engineering Project Fair and Problem Solving Contest among High Schools” was held by Izmir University of Economics, Department of Industrial Engineering. Students talked about their senior projects at TAV, Simeco, Phillip Morris, Özgörkey Feast Cake Studio, Ege Endüstri, Tuborg, Dokuz Eylül University Hospital, and BTM, presented their posters to the guests at the fair that took place at IUE Multi-Purpose Hall.
THEY SPEAK FROM THEIR HEART
They teach photography to hearing impaired children, they learn sign language, and raise awareness with videos where celebrities take part in with their "İşaret Dilini Sen de Öğren, Bir Gün Lazım Olabilir (Learn Sign Language, You, Too May Need It One Day)" project. Hayal Tanrıöver and Oğuz Ediz, senior students at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Media and Communication, Broadcasting Option, conduct photography lessons for 14 students studying at Tülay Aktaş School for the Hearing Impaired as part of their social responsibility project. Tanrıöver and Ediz learn sign language after the lessons. They plan to raise awareness about hearing impaired and sign language by uploading sign language videos on their website called “sendeöğren.org”.
