‘IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING A CAREER PATH’
As the students are occupied with possible career choices with Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS) being over, the experts state that choosing the right career is one of the most significant decisions in a person’s life. Clinical Psychologist Merve Yavuz, IUE Psychological Development and Counseling Centre Coordinator, who pointed out that career choice was a major determinant in life style, stated that students needed to be informed about occupations and identify their skills realistically.
STROLLER FOR DADS
Dads will be able to take out their babies for a comfortable and easier stroller ride in city life with the design of Aysu Çelebi, student at IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design. Çelebi, with her design called, “The Stroller Inizio”, allows dads to adjust the appropriate position and height to their liking.
‘NO COMPROMISE: QUALITY IS KEY TO EYE HEALTH’
The experts state that effects of sunlight increase during summer days, and when choosing sunglasses, people should get an expert opinion and opt for a quality one. They also emphasize the importance of staying out of sun between the hours of 11.00 – 16.00, and said that sunglass was the most frequently used helpful tool.
DEVASTATING LOSS OF TURKEY
Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of the Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, stated that he was deeply saddened by the death of Süleyman Demirel, the 9th President of Republic of Turkey. Demirtaş said, “Süleyman Demirel, who dedicated his life to the Republic and truly loved Turkey, was an esteemed statesman and a one of a kind world leader. He has provided services in every inch of Anatolia and these services will never be forgotten.”
‘TURKEY SHOULD CONSIDER REFORM FOR GROWTH’
Dr. Martin Raiser, Country Director for Turkey of the World Bank, stated that the Turkish economic growth has come down to a modest 3-4% range, and in order to sustain growth, Turkey needed to boost savings and level of schooling, and boost female employment.
STUDENT ARCHITECTS’ TOUCH
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Architecture reflected the future look of Basmane and Kadifekale to their projects. Urban architecture the students designed in their senior projects revealed the socio-cultural and historical values of Basmane and Kadifekale. By taking the residents’ needs into consideration, students developed suggestions for buildings on subjects such as healthy living, children’s museum, public education, soup kitchen, art and handicraft training, textile center, and observatory.
FUNCTIONAL AND UTOPIC DESIGNS
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design graduated with their futuristic design projects. As IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen viewed each project, he tested the folding electric scooter designed by Egemen Yenikale, student of IUE Department of Industrial Design. 147 students from Departments of Industrial Design, Visual Communication Design, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Architecture, and Fashion and Textile Design within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design have taken steps into the professional life.
REPORT CARD; CHANCE TO IMPROVE
More than 17 million 500 thousand students in pre-schools, primary schools, and secondary schools are getting ready to receive their report cards. As students are about to begin their 3 month summer break, the experts state that report card is a good source for children in terms of informing them about areas they need to improve, and that expecting children to be perfect is a big delusion.
INTERIOR ARCHITECTS CAME TOGETHER AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Interior architects came together at a colloquy where Iris Dunbar, President of the IFI (The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers), Sebastiano Renari, Roberto Lucena, and IFI authorities attended as part of the World Interiors Day celebrations. The future of the profession of interior architecture was discussed at the event organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, with collaboration of TMMOB- Chamber of Interior Architects of Turkey, Izmir Branch and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ö. Osman Demirbaş, Past Acting President of IFI Executive Board. Students and academicians asked questions to Dunbar at the “Talking Interiors (İç Mekanları Konuşmak / Konuşan İç Mekanlar)” titled event organized by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasırcı, Head of IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Research Assistant Seren Borvalı, Lecturer İpek Kaştaş, students Ozan Can Çiçek, Özün Özgen, and Pelin Saygı.
