NEW GENERATION OF FASHION DESIGNERS
High school students designed prom dresses. Gözde Musluoğlu, student from Büyük Çiğli Izmir Türk Private High School, came in first place with her design at the “2nd Fashion Design Contest among High School Students” organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design. Muhammed Ali Yıldız, from Yunus Emre Anadolu High School came in second, and Melise Deniz Dungan from Izmir Kız Anadolu High School came in third place at the contest where 146 students from 67 high schools attended.
KYOTO EDUCATION NETWORK
Izmir University of Economics became the only partner of Kyoto University, 9 Nobel Awards holder, in graduate education level in Turkey. IUE Graduate students will be able to take a semester at Graduate School of Management Sciences at Kyoto University, and Kyoto University graduate students likewise will be able to pursue their graduate education at Izmir University of Economics. Additionally, academicians of both universities will be able to support education through exchange as well.
FUTURE OF NURSES IS IN UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION
The experts point out the importance of 4 year undergraduate education in nursing, a profession with an increasing importance in the field of healthcare. Assoc. Dr. Filiz Öğce, Head of Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), stated that as a result of the changes in the responsibilities of nurses, the need for offering undergraduate education became evident.
‘EU NEEDS A REFORM’
Dr. Marina Prentoulis, Member of Syriza, Greece’s Ruling Party, and Senior Lecturer at University of East Anglia, who had been the guest of Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics, stated that they believed Turkey belonged in the European Union; however, there was a need for a reform within the Union itself.
FESTIVAL FINALE AT ECONOMICS; GRİPİN
Group Gripin delivered a magnificent concert for the grand finale of the 14th Spring Festival of Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Students met the cast of ‘Seksenler’ TV series during the day. Scriptwriter Murat Aras, actors Berat Yenilmez, Aydın Sarman, Ayberk Atilla, Eray Yasin Işık, and Hakan Bulut of ‘Seksenler’ TV Show came together with IUE students at the Conference Hall. The colloquy started with commemorating Zeki Alasya, who was one of the significant actors of Turkish Theatre recently passed away.
ACCESSIBLE FESTIVAL
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are enjoying the spring with series of zestful activities at the 14th Spring Festival. As the audience attended the “Acapella Boğaziçi” concert at night time, the Engelsizmir Wheel Chair Dance performance, hosted by IUE Kızılay-Turkish Red Crescent Club, attracted great attention in the afternoon on the second day of the festival. Students accompanied the dancers in wheelchairs, and all the restraints disappeared in the rhythm of the dance.
ENTHUSIASTIC START TO THE FESTIVAL
Students of Izmir University of Economics are celebrating the spring with a Retro concept. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, and students cut the cake and officially opened the 14th Spring Festival, mainly sponsored by Izmir Chamber of Commerce. First night’s guest singer Can Bonomo sang his popular songs with the audience.
RENEWABLE ENERGY WILL BE DISCUSSED
Izmir University of Economics will be hosting the 4th Energy Management and Policies Workshop. The role of wind and solar power in Turkish energy security will be discussed in the workshop that will be organized by IUE Department of Sustainable Energy. Dr. Ioannis Tsipouridis, President, Board of Directors of Hellenic Wind Energy Association from Greece, and Yusuf Yazar, General Director of ETKB Renewable Energy from Turkey will be the keynote speakers at the workshop that will start at 09.30 on May 13. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, IUE Head of Department of Sustainable Energy, will interpret the outcomes of the scientific research titled “Energy Security Perception of Turkish Industry” conducted by the Department.
IZMIR ECONOMIC’S MARK ON ARTICHOKE FESTIVAL
The 1st Urla International Artichoke Festival, organized in order to promote artichoke, hosted thousands of guests in Urla. "1st Urla International Artichoke Festival" co-organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Urla Municipality, and Izmir University of Economics, involved artichoke recipes contest, tastings, panels, exhibitions, and workshops.
MOBILE APPS IN ELECTIONS
Candidates and parties who are able to blend the election process with technological developments will be able to think that the election is assured, stated the experts. As Turkey holds her breath and focuses on the elections that will take place on June 7, the experts point out that the politicians are asking for votes by talking face to face instead of making promises with the developments in technology. Burak Amirak, Lecturer at IUE Faculty of Communication, Department of Public Relations and Advertising, stated that in addition to the political dynamics of each era, especially the developments in communication had effect on the election process.
