SLOVENIAN TASTES AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics Department of Culinary Arts and Management hosted “Slovenian Culinary Day” event. Slovenian Chef Janez Bratovz cooked Slovenian dishes with the help of future chefs. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Milan Jazbec, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Turkey, Mazhar İzmiroğlu, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Izmir, and many guests have attended the event which took place Izmir University of Economics.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS WILL ‘IMPROVE THE CITY’
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is the one and only member to have joined the “Learning Cities Networks (LCN)” from Turkey. The network, with 27 institutions from England, Italy, Ireland, Finland, Sweden, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Scotland, the Republic of South Africa, Botswana, China, and Turkey as members, aims to assist cities in finding creative and rapid solutions at an international platform. The members will develop, discuss, and share the solution recommendations regarding their cities at 2016 PASCAL Conference that will take place at Glasgow, and provide global data flow.
‘OUR DECISIONS ARE BASED ON OUR EMOTIONS’
It has been stated that people used their right side of the brain (the side said to control emotions) 95% of time when it came to making decisions, and that the metaphors played major role in marketing communication. Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Business held a symposium titled, “Alternative Methods in Marketing Researches”. Haluk Sicimoğlu, President of Advertising Association of Turkey and Chief Strategy Officer, BDDO Turkey, who spoke at the symposium, stated that the recent studies on human brain revealed that the ad campaigns of the past 10 years were nothing but money gone to waste.
FASHION AND DESIGN AT ITO
Designs, prepared by sophomore and senior students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, have been exhibited at the Exhibition Hall of Izmir Chamber of Commerce.
Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, who attended the opening of the exhibition, talked to the students and got information about the collections they prepared. Prof. Dr. Ender Yazgan Bulgun, Dean of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, stated that the senior students were getting ready for the graduation fashion show and their collections included many different designs.
FESTIVAL TASTES OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES
Students celebrated the second foreign awareness with a “Foreign Languages Festival” that took place at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). One thousand 400 students from 59 high schools in Izmir had a chance to experience the cultures, dances, and tastes of countries of 9 different languages. Participants were informed about Chinese, Russian, German, Japanese, Spanish, French, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, and English language trainings at the festival which was organized by IUE School of Foreign Languages. Students had the opportunity to learn about different cultures and languages of other countries at the festival where Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Rector of IUE also attended.
HEALTHY AGING
The issue of aging was brought up in the “Importance of Health in Old Age” titled panel organized by IUE Vocational School of Health Services. Funda İfakat Tengiz, Lecturer at IUE Vocational School of Health Services, Psychologist Burçin Çoltu and Physical Therapist Adem Uçar, both from Zübeyde Hanım Nursing Home, attended the panel moderated by Lecturer Huriye Vural. Among the audience was IUE academicians and students, and residents of Zübeyde Hanım Nursing Home.
BEWARE OF ECONOMY AFTER THE ELECTIONS
Halit Soydan, Lecturer at IUE Department of Economics, and Former Managing Director of Yapı Kredi and Garanti Banks, stated that economy was not the focal point prior to the general elections on June 7, and he said, “We should really be wondering about what’s going to happen in economy after the elections. Those, who are on the verge of making strategic decisions, better wait till after June 7.”
TUNES BY MIRACLE KIDS
Miracles combined with music. 20 young members of Society for the Protection and Guidance of Autistic Children (ODER) gave a concert as part of the World Autism Awareness Day activities organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Psychology Club Social Responsibility Unit.
FABRIC DESIGN FOR IZMIR...
Fashion students imagined Izmir in fabrics. Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design Senior students used waste fabrics and reflected the city on the fabrics within the scope of Applied Workshop in Fashion II.
