ÇİPER FURNITURE AT IUE
Furniture by Architect Danyal Tevfik Çiper has been donated to IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design as part of the “DATUUM Documentation and Archiving- Modern Furniture in Turkey" project carried out by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. The furniture is being displayed on the 5th floor of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design building.
HEALTHY EATING BRINGS SUCCESS
As students are having stressful days due to mid-term exams these days, the experts suggest that they need to watch out their eating habits in order to focus on long and intense days better. Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Fırtına Karagonlar, Lecturer at IUE Department of Food Engineering, mentioned that students opted for chocolates and energy drinks for quick energy; however these had negative impacts on health and exam performances in the long run.
“TALISMANIC SHIRTS” AGAINST VIOLENCE ARE AT BUCA
Talismanic shirts are on display against violence. The talismanic shirts, co-created by Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, and Lecturer Jovita Sakalauskaite Kurnaz are being exhibited at Buca Municipality Culture and Art Center. 20 talismanic shirts are created out of white shirts donated by 65 women from Turkey and Lithuania. The exhibition will stay open until January 29.
SURPRISING INFLATION RATE IN IZMIR
Inflation rates for Izmir skyrocketed. Turkish Statistical Institute (TSI) announced the annual inflation rates for both December and 2015, and Izmir and Aegean Region cities came up with the highest inflation rates. The experts stated that Izmir, a city in close proximity to agricultural centers and has a cost advantage compared to Istanbul, having high inflation rate was very startling.
FLU SHOT: BEST WEAPON AGAINST FLU
The experts pointed out that each patient going to the hospital with high fever lately in Turkey being diagnosed with “swine flu” was a mistake. They said that incidence and prevalence of flu increased starting from the last week of December, and those cases were due to seasonal flu, and the best way to get protected was flu shots.
LIGHTING WILL INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY
Students of Department of Electrical and Electronics, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), designed a lighting system that would increase people’s concentration level, creativity, and individual productivity. Students stated that level of productivity and creativity of people working/studying indoors changed based on lighting and color temperature. Entrepreneurial students are presented a white colored Dynamic Lighting System and red, green, and blue colored RGB LED lighting design in their project. This way, they aim to increase productivity in office environments and save energy at the same time.
PARENTING ACADEMY
Parents will get trained on how to raise healthy and confident children. Methods of establishing and practicing healthy and effective communication skills with children will be taught in the courses intended for parents, parents-to-be, and students of child development program. Izmir University of Economics, Continuous Education Centre (IUECEC) aims to help parents (with children aged 0-18) get expert opinion in order to help and support their children.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS STILL HUNGRY FOR SUCCESS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) continues to reach the summit with its entrepreneurial and leading structure. Following the success of qualifying for the “Entrepreneurship Flag” in the “Bu Gençlikte İş Var” titled competition organized by Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD) for the most number of enterprising projects for the 2nd time, IUE has ranked 15th place to have published in 23 scientific fields among 193 universities according to METU URAP (University Ranking by Academics Performance) Research Laboratory.
NEW YEAR’S COOKIES FOR SICK CHILDREN
Student chefs baked New Year’s cookies for sick children. The New Year’s cookies baked by students of Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) as part of their “Pastry” course, are being sold in order to help purchase a dialysis machine for children with kidney failure. Student chefs, who contributed to the purchase of dialysis machine for children who are hospitalized at Nephrology Ward at Ege University, will help sick children welcome new year with a new hope.
ONE STEP CLOSER TO CAREER
High school students got one step closer to choosing their professions. The “3rd I am Choosing My Profession” fair organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) took place at the Conference Hall. One thousand 126 students from Uşak, Aydın, Manisa, and Izmir talked to the academicians for two days, got information about the departments, and briefed about how to overcome exam anxiety.
