The project that will revive the center of fashion
Mimar Kemalettin Fashion Center will turn into a 24-hour living space by designers from Izmir University of Economics. Mimar Kemalettin Fashion Center, Turkey's wedding dress production center in Izmir, which has become the most important markets of Europe and Middle East countries, the square and its surroundings at the intersection of Necati Bey Boulevard and Mimar Kemalettin Street will be the focal point of tourists and Izmir residents with its new look and facilities.
From washing vegetables to becoming a boss
After graduating from Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Okan Ataman, who went to Germany for a master's degree, took a completely different path in the restaurant where he started to work by washing vegetables and fruits to make use of his spare time. With the advantage of a foreign language he learned in the University, Ataman, who self-improved in a short period of time at the "Extrablatt" named restaurant in Siegen and became a chef assistant, returned to Turkey and decided to establish his business in the food area.
Going global with designs
Costumes and designs of cinema, film and theater plays in Germany are brought to the stages with the signatures of designers from Izmir University of Economics. Jörn Fröhlich, Lecturer, Department of Textile and Fashion Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), got inspired by the musical Queen of the Desert and designed the set and costume for the movie titled "Gerd-Königin des Odenwaldes", which will be premiered in October.
Designs that will recreate 'Halkapınar'
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design collaborated to identify idle areas across the city and revive them with ecological designs. Halkapınar was chosen as the pilot area within the scope of the studies aiming to develop urban aesthetics and create new qualified living spaces in different parts of Izmir.
‘Izmir’ films specific to September 9th
Special events will be held on the 98th anniversary of September 9, the date when Izmir was liberated from the enemy occupation and the War of Independence was crowned with victory. In the event, which will be held in cooperation with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Izmir University of Economics (IUE) EKOKENT Research and Application Center, a 40-minute program consisting of images of Izmir and Kültürpark (culture park) shot between 1930 and 1960 will be presented to Izmir residents.

Disarmament is a must for global peace
Asst. Prof. Sıtkı Egeli, Lecturer at Department of Political Science and International Relations, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), lectured online at the 10th disarmament summer school in Odessa, Ukraine. In the program held at Odessa Mechnikov National University with over 50 participants from 20 countries with the support of institutions such as the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority and the US Department of State, Asst. Prof. Egeli said, “The critical role, played by the disarmament agreements in ending the Cold War, unfortunately, has been forgotten over time. Far from adding new ones to the existing disarmament agreements, we see that even the very successful agreements signed 30 years ago have been terminated one by one by the leading states of the world. The fact that there has been no serious progress in the field of disarmament for almost 30 years has resulted in forgetting of important accumulations and experiences in this field.”
IUE nurses start their profession by taking their oaths
Nurses from Izmir University of Economy were sent off on their professional journey by taking the International Pledge for Nurses at the online graduation ceremony. Due to the concerns regarding the Covid-19 pandemic period, Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing 2019-2020 Academic Year Graduation Ceremony was held in a virtual environment with the participation of the students' families.

Dr. Elçin Yılmaz, Head of Common Compulsory Courses Department, Izmir University of Economics participated as a speaker in the online conference organized by the Germany Hildesehim Kemalist Thought Association as part of the August 30th Victory Day celebrations. In the chat with 8 thousand 179 listeners from many countries, Dr. Yılmaz evaluated the period leading to the victory of August 30, 1922, the struggle with its before and aftermath under Mustafa Kemal Pasha's chief command.
Her passion for 'Barbie' created a brand
Asena Tuğcu Altay, who developed her passion for design, which started by sewing clothes for barbie dolls when she was only 8 years old, developed her own brand in the field of home textiles and started to export her special designs about Izmir to all over the world.
