The corona made us 'filmaholic'
Millions of people, who have been looking for ways to spend time at home by not going out unless it is necessary due to coronavirus, found cure in watching movies and series. In Turkey, while the number of Netflix users, an online series and movie viewing platform, exceeded 4 million, the epidemic movies have seen intense interest.
Online ‘creativity’ festival
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will organize a “GençYaratıcı (Young Creative) Festival” in order to improve the vision of young people in the field of advertising and to bring them together with the leading names of the communication sector. The online festival that will take place on 29-30 May, will be broadcast live on IUE Faculty of Communication’s YouTube page and will be open to everyone.

Taylan Demirkaya, Lecturer from IUE Faculty of Business has been the first guest of the series of webinars titled, “Transformation in Tough Times”, co-organized by Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO) and Faculty of Business, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) to support companies in the difficult period caused by the coronavirus.
University graduates kept their jobs
Those, who were least affected by the coronavirus epidemic, were highly skilled university graduates with opportunities to work from home. Prof. Oğuz Esen, Lecturer, Department of Economics, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), who had been the guest of Pandemic Academy, held by IUE Faculty of Communication as part of Campus Izmir talks, stated that the university graduates kept both their health, their income and their jobs.
We searched for detached houses non-stop
Thousands of people who did not go out and stay away from crowded places, unless necessary, due to coronavirus, started to search for “detached houses”. Burçin Önder, Director of Vocational School, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), said that according to researches, the detached house prices increased 25 percent, while the search for detached houses on the internet increased by 252 percent in Turkey in two months.
IUE students will oversee data analytics!
Data analyzing will be among the professions of the future. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business, which offers education to its students based on the understanding of excellence in education, will teach students data analytics literacy and data analytics, which would be a first in Turkey.
Bike paths and walking trails will increase after the epidemic
Assoc. Prof. Aslı Ceylan Öner, Head of Department of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), said that cities have entered a rapid learning process due to coronavirus, and after the epidemic, there would be improvements in public spaces for people to socialize by maintaining social distance.
Healthy snacks for a balanced diet
During this period where we are confined at homes due to the coronavirus epidemic, Trainer Chef Tolgahan Kamiloğlu of Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) prepared 16 healthy snack recipes that can be easily prepared at home.
