Department of Visual Communication Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) held “A Visual Frame / Her Mess, His Mess” titled workshop. Workshop’s guest for the 2019 fall semester was the Italian Architect and Designer Stefano Cardini. Cardini taught students and graduates of IUE Department of Visual Communication Design, how to come up with a solution-oriented design by using a two dimensional square or rectangular pieces of fabric throughout the two-day workshop. 

The project, which researches the resistance mechanisms developed by cells against the drugs used in the treatment of lung cancer, was awarded by the oncologists. The study of Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Fırtına Karagonlar, Head of Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), made it among the top six projects out of 103 projects at the “Onkolojide İz Bırakanlar (Those Who Make a Mark on Oncology)” Summit held by the Turkish Association for Cancer Research and Control. 

Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) created designs that would be alternative to plastics which are believed to be one of the major threats to human health, and started to be used widely recently. 

Angela Burns, Lecturer at Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), is displaying her illustrations on textile art at an exhibition called ‘No Place like Home’. 

Kerem Özerler, Mert Uzyıldırım, and Kutay Yorulmaz, graduates of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), qualified to exhibit their collection under the brand of “Wangan” at “London Design Festival 2019”. Designs of IUE architects attracted great attention at the London Design Fair, a major design event which took place at the Old Truman Brewery, England.  

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services held the “Assessment of Educational Programs in Vocational Schools of Health Services within National and International Context” themed 6^th Vocational Schools of Health Services Workshop at IUE Conference Hall. 90 academics from 48 universities attended the workshop that was co-organized with the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Health Services Education Programs (SAHIDAD).

Asst. Prof. Serkan Yolcu, Lecturer at Faculty of Law, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), was invited to the 2019 International Junior Faculty Forum, which is attended by world’s most prestigious lawyers, and represented our country in USA. Asst. Prof. Yolcu, who qualified to be selected to the top 10 applicants among hundreds of applicants from various universities worldwide, shared his studies on comparative constitutional law. 

Thousand year old natural tastes of Izmir turn into miracle in the hands of talented Italian chefs. Chefs of Izmir University of Economics prepared Izmir and Italy’s healthy tastes, which take shape under the same sun and climate, with the Italian Chef Antonio Franzé. Thousand year old recipes of Izmir and Mediterranean cuisine that come into mind when talking about healthy eating, come to the tables with tastes added by the entrepreneurial young chefs.   

Works of writers and poets, shaping the Turkish literature lately, are being translated into English. Nilgün Dungan, Lecturer at Department of Translation and Interpretation, Faculty of Arts and Science, Izmir University of Economics, has translated works of many valuable writers and poets such as Hasan Ali Toptaş, Ataol Behramoğlu, Murathan Mungan, Murat Gülsoy, Behçet Çelik, Ahmet Büke, Saba Altınsay, Gül İrepoğlu, Sezer Ayvaz, Mine Söğüt, Müge İplikçi, Behçet Necatigil, Gülten Akın, and Haydar Ergülen, and contributed to publicity of these literary works in English.

Hilal Karakaş, fourth year student at Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), has been awarded the special jury award at the 7^th House-wear and Beachwear Design Contest held by Denizli Exporters Association.
