Students of Furniture and Decoration and Interior Design Programs of Vocational School of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are manufacturing for the students of Karabağlar Atatürk Vocational and Technical Anadolu High School.

“The Epic of Ataturk” titled panel was held at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) in observance of the 100^th anniversary of the War of Independence. In his speech, Ahmet Gürel, who owns an extensive archive of Ataturk photographs in Turkey, pointed out the importance of protecting and keeping the national values alive.

Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), displayed their works that reflect the art, design, and architectural movement initiated by the Bauhaus School. Students’ exhibition, to celebrate the 100^th anniversary of Bauhaus School, that took place at Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center, attracted great attention.

GOING GLOBAL WITH GLOCALZONE The online market “Glocalzone”, founded by the youth entrepreneurs of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) which allows purchasing products, that are hard to find in close surroundings, via travelers travelling abroad, received its second investment for 400 thousand Euros after the first investment of 1 million Turkish Lira in 2018.

David Kusuma, Member of WDO-World Design Organization Board of Directors, has been the first speaker of “FUTURIXMIR: Futurism and Innovation Talks, Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Kusuma, who stated that design was borne out of necessity, held a workshop with the students of IUE Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Oruç, Director of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Continuous Education Center, developed a project that allows school age children to use internet safely. The Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) supported this project only from Turkey among more than 1,300 project submissions from 156 countries. 80 teachers and 331 5^th graders received training up until now within the scope of this project.

On Monday February 18, 2019, David Kusuma, WDO-World Design Organization Board of Directors member and Director of Tupperware Innovation and Design Department was the first speaker of FUTURIXMIR: İzmir University of Economics, Futurism and Innovation Talks.

On February 19, 2019, approximately 60 students from the Department of Industrial Design attended the design workshop with David Kusuma, WDO-World Design Organization Board of Directors member and Director of Tupperware Innovation and Design Department. 

Asst. Prof. Özge Sağlam, Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics, will be researching the next generation display technology. Sağlam’s TUBITAK funded project will manufacture capacitors for more efficient and durable smart phone and television screens and wearable technologies.

The European Association of Nuclear Medicine, of which Prof. Dr. Cumali Aktolun, Faculty Member of Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Medicine, is a member, published the newest version of the guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer published by the American Thyroid Association (ATA) in 2015. Prof. Dr. Aktolun remarked, "Nobody was able to object to the guidelines of American Thyroid Association before. This is a great success for us."
