Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Club co-organized organized a seminar. UAV Systems Coordinator Samet Sayın delivered “Historical Development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Their Application Areas, and Respective Legislation” themed seminar on campus on Friday, March 22.

Elif Taşçıoğlu, Production Designer of Vavien, İşe Yarar Bir Şey, and many other internationally awarded films, was a guest speaker at the Cinema and Digital Media department.

Almost half of cancers are caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. Prof. Dr. Kamer Mutafoğlu, Head of Division of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), pointed that majority of cancer types were preventable.  Mutafoğlu said, “Nearly one-third of deaths caused by cancer are associated with five main lifestyle factors such as tobacco products, alcohol consumption, malnutrition, obesity, and lack of physical activity. Use of tobacco and tobacco products alone is the most significant cancer risk factor.”

The International Day of Mathematics and Pi Day has been celebrated with an event held for the second time this year by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Mathematics.  Prof. Dr. İsmihan Bayramoğlu, Dean of IUE Faculty of Arts and Science, delivered the opening speech of the event organized by Prof. Dr. G. Yazgı Tütüncü, Head of IUE Department of Mathematics, Lecturer Sevin Gümgüm, and research assistants from the department.  In his speech, Prof. Dr. Bayramoğlu, pointed out the importance of mathematical theories and applications in a country’s development and progress; and mentioned the achievements of IUE Department of Mathematics.

Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) were inspired by mythological gods and designed outfits. The designs were presented to a jury consisting Ahmet Korkmaz, one of the designers of BR Retailing, and famous fashion designer Hatice Gökçe. Selected designs will be displayed in the debut of Beymen Business’ new brand’s collection in May.

The Lizard by Playwright Aleksander Volodin, performed by Izmir University of Economics Theater Club and directed by Emrah Şenışık, has mesmerized the audience.

Izmir University of Economics Technology Transfer Office has initiated the only product-based venture accelerator program of Turkey. The “DesignX Entrepreneur Accelerator Program”, which will develop entrepreneurial ideas in terms of technology and design, as well as in the areas of incorporation and finance, will facilitate coming up with solutions to consumer needs.

Department of Architecture presented the annual BİRİKİM (ACCUMULATION) exhibition, which started in 2015 and continued every year, to students, academicians, architects and anyone interested in architectural education.

Dr. Burak Paköz, Lecturer, Faculty of Health Sciences, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), called attention to “Purple Day”, the International Day for Epilepsy and falls on 26 March each year. Dr. Paköz, who emphasized that people with epilepsy may feel alienated, said, “Patients with epilepsy can lead a regular life with a right treatment.”

Students of C started to work before they graduated. Students of Real Estate and Real Estate Management Program of Izmir University of Economics Vocational School started to work as interns at FCTU Real Estate in their first year of study.
