IUE GRADUATE SIBLINGS SHARED THEIR EXPERIENCES ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION
Esra Sarıhan, Graduate of Department of Industrial Systems Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and her sister Melis Sarıhan, Graduate of IUE Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering shared their experiences with students at the Applied Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management Workshop.
CREATING CHILDREN-FRIENDLY SPACES
Büşra Olkun and Filiz Egi, students from Department of Sociology, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), came in third place at the ‘’Social Cooperative Train’’ titled project contest held by the Directorate General of Cooperative of Ministry of Trade. Olkun and Egi wanted to create “child-friendly” spaces for children at many locations such as parks, restaurants, bookstores, and hospitals so they can actively take part in life.
APPRENTICES AND MASTERS COMING TOGETHER
Vocational School of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) brings masters and apprentices together. The “Çıraklar Ustalara Soruyor (Apprentices Asking Masters)”event, which was initiated in 2017-2018 academic year for the first time, continues full speed into its second year.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS VOCATIONAL SCHOOL CONTINUES TO SUPPORT YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS
Lecturers of Izmir University of Economics Vocational School will prepare the youth, who will shape the ecosystem of the future, for the second time this year for business world by mentoring high-school entrepreneurs in Izmir in cooperation with Junior Achievement Education Foundation (JAEF) as part of “GençBizz” Corporation Program. 16 lecturers from Izmir University of Economics Vocational School will get together with high school students across Izmir, and support them with realizing their job ideas as part of the mentoring activities that will last throughout the year.
SLEEP TRACKING DEVICE RECEIVES AN AWARD
Design by Nektar Ege Altıntoprak, Graduate of Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), came in first place in Turkey at the “Falling Walls Lab” contest organized by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The “sleep tracking device”, consisting of a smart alarm and an ankle band for children will prevent bed-wetting.

It has been reported that generation Z started their university education this year, and learning methods for this new generation needed to be researched thoroughly. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) hosted the “English as a Medium of Instruction at Universities: An Integrated Approach 2” workshop sponsored by the Cambridge University Press.

The leading role of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) in education is reaching out to the business world. A protocol has been signed between Mahmut Özgener, Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, and President of Board of Trustees of Izmir University of Economics, and Aydın Buğra İlter, President of Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGIAD). The protocol allows members of EGIAD, and employees working at companies owned by members of EGIAD to receive graduate education at a discounted price. A 25% discount in tuition fees will be applied as part of the protocol.
TALENT TRANSFER TO GEDIZ
Talented students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will gain experience at Gediz Electricity Retail Sales Corporation. The "Talent Management Project" signed between Gediz Electricity and Izmir University of Economics will allow 35 students studying at various departments and programs of IUE to perform internship at Gediz Electricity.
COLOURFUL THEATER MASKS BY YOUTH WITH DOWN SYNDROME
Youth with Down syndrome displayed their fine motor skills and created theater masks, and painted them. Under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Duygu Ebru Öngen Corsini, Faculty Member of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), the youth used waste and recycled paper and made masks that are used in performance arts.
