HIGHER YIELD IN AGRICULTURE IS POSSIBLE VIA LED LIGHTING
Mert Kalaycı, student at M.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Program of Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), managed to move soilless agriculture technology a step forward and made it 30 times more efficient via led lighting. With this method, which aims to avert global food and water shortages due to global warming, uninterrupted photosynthesis is possible.
TUBITAK’S GOAL: QUALIFIED PEOPLE FOR QUALITY SCIENCE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Project Development and Technology Transfer Office held an informative seminar at IUE Conference Hall for academicians applying for TUBITAK grants for their scientific studies. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Feza Korkusuz, Advisor to the President of TUBITAK, stated that the country needed qualified people for quality science, and that the society’s interest in science increased.

See Like a Child (Çocuk Gibi bak in Turkish), a project which has been carried out by the students of Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Communication for the last 2 terms is going to the U.S. The project has been nominated as one of the top 3 among 53 projects that applied to the Peer-to-peer (P2P): Facebook Global Digital Challenge and will make a presentation in Washington D.C.
3D PRINTED FASHION
Textile met with technology. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design created outfit with 3D printing. The outfit, which was combined with LED and optical fiber components, was displayed at the International Technical Textiles Congress.
FALL FASHION SHOW BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
41 young fashion designers displayed their designs at the 2018 – 2019 Fall Semester Fashion Show of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE). The performance was greatly appreciated by the crowd.
IZMIR CINEMAS WILL REVIVE
Film industry has been addressed at the “Revive Cinema in Izmir Again!” themed panel that took place on Thursday, December 20 at Güzelbahçe Culture Center. The panel, co-organized by Izmir University of Economics, Ege University, Dokuz Eylül University, Yaşar University, Ege Rotary club, and EON Academy Izmir, to strengthen the economic and cultural development of Izmir, addressed how to revive film industry in Izmir.
CITIZENS PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN EMERGENCY AID
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services, Paramedic Program carried out various activities to raise awareness about the importance of emergency aid as part of observance of December 22 – 28, Paramedic Services Week. Nursun Üstünkarlı, Lecturer at IUE Vocational School of Health Services, said, “In emergency situations, appropriate first aid to be applied by citizens would make the paramedics’ jobs easier until the ambulance arrives.”
DISTINGUISHED YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD GOES TO IUE ACADEMICIAN
Assoc. Prof. Göktuğ KARPAT, Faculty Member, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Physics, has been awarded the “Distinguished Young Scientist Award (GEBIP), 2018” of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) in the field of physics. Assoc. Prof. Karpat will receive 20 thousand lira over three years for his studies in the field of physics.
