AMBASSADORS OF IZMIR FROM IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is sending off ambassadors of Izmir to the four corners of the earth. IUE, which has been hosting 46 students from 40 countries, has graduated 21 African and Asian EXPO scholarship students who adore Turkey. Izmir has been candidate for EXPO 2015 and 2020. 46 students from Africa, Europe, Asia, and America continents benefitted from the scholarship up until now, and 21 new graduates, who have completed their education, will be representing Izmir Economics in their countries with a spirit of entrepreneurship.
GLORIOUS GRADUATION AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
IUE Graduates of Faculties of Communication, Law, Fine Arts and Design, and School of Applied Management Sciences, Vocational School, Vocational School of Justice, and Vocational School of Health Services who successfully completed their studies in 2015 – 2016 Academic Year, were granted their diplomas. The students threw their caps into the air proudly at the second of the graduation ceremonies that took place at IUE Amphitheatre.
‘WOMAN’ EXPRESSED BY FELT
Spirit of women has been expressed via felt on a journey from Turkey to Lithuania. Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and Lecturer Jovita Sakalauskaite Kurnaz, who tell the story of evolution of woman, her ability to give life, and her death through the objects they created with felt, are exhibiting their creations for the first time in Lithuania. Art lovers will be able to view the long journey of felt with woman at the exhibition at Kaunas College - University of Applied Sciences Art Gallery.
‘ATTENTION’ FOR LIFE
Prof. Dr. Eyüp Sabri Ercan, Chairman of the Executive Board of Turkish Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, pointed out that genetics played 80-90% in development of Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, and if untreated, it resulted in many problems including academic failure and substance dependence.

‘FROM DARK ROADS TO A COLORFUL LIFE’
Syrian Refugees, who had to leave their homeland to start a new life unbeknownst to them, became an inspiration in projects of students of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design. Seniors Emir Kalaycı and Volkan Şekerli, from Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, reflected the drama of the Syrian refugees, who sailed from shores of Çeşme to Greece, in their “Renkli pencerelerden simsiyah gerçeklere bakmak (looking at pitch black realities through colorful windows)’’ titled project. Kalaycı and Şekerli pointed out that the refugees had to go through pitch black roads to get to a colorful life.
‘SELF-CONFIDENCE BRINGS SUCCESS IN LYS’
The Undergraduate Placement Exam (LYS) marathon for prospective university students is taking a start this weekend. More than one million 600 thousand students will be taking Social Sciences exam on June 18, Mathematics on June 19, Science on June 25, and Literature-Geography exams on June 26. The experts state that students need to stay away from negative and pointless thoughts, and that having self-confidence in their knowledge brings success.
DESIGN SHOW AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Students of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) completed their education with a fashion show and exhibition titled, “Metamorphosis”. The exhibition by Departments of Industrial Design, Architecture, Visual Communication, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and fashion show by students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design attracted great attention and admiration.
RALLY TO SAVE LIVES!
This rally has been dedicated to saving lives. The future paramedics tested their occupational skills and knowledge at the “1st EKO – Uni Rally”’. Students of Paramedic Program of IUE Vocational School of Health Services tried to carry a bowl full of water on a stretcher without spilling it and balls without dropping them on the ground in a fast and steady pace. They dedicated themselves to attend to a patient in the fastest and most secure way. Students had both fun at the rally and learned how to save a patient’s life under harsh conditions.
REPORT CARD IS A TOOL
More than 17 million 500 thousand students in pre-schools, primary schools, and secondary schools are getting ready to receive their report cards. As students are about to begin their 3 month summer break, the experts state that report card is a good source for children in terms of informing them about areas that need to be improved.
