FRENCH TOUCH BY IUE PROSPECTIVE CHEFS
Students of Department of Culinary Arts and Management of Izmir University of Economics, who will make a difference in Aegean cuisine with their own touch, will be learning about the French finesse onsite. This year 12 IUE prospective chefs will be performing their internship in France for 3 months as part of the agreement with Les Toques Blanches Lyonnaises established by world famous chefs of France. The students organized a dinner for guests including Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan under the guidance of Laurent Cordonnier, Trainer Chef of Institut Paul Bocuse, at the West Aegean Restaurant before their internship begins.
FROM IUE TO AEROSPACE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), center for science and technology, will be the new address for training aerospace engineers. IUE Faculty of Engineering and Computer Sciences launched a new department, Department of Aerospace Engineering. The department, in which the medium of instruction will be English, will be admitting 30 aerospace engineers with full scholarships. The department will be offering courses on the design and development of aircraft and spacecraft; it will focus on innovative engineering training.
GOOD STRESS VERSUS BAD STRESS’
Stress is incredibly common but in the right dose it can be even healthy. Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Erdeniz, Lecturer, IUE Department of Psychology, stated that stress wasn’t an emotion but a physiological reaction. He said, “Short-term stress helps us survive but long-term stress makes us sick.”
IUE ROSE TO ITS FEET TO APPLAUD
The path to the Republic echoed in Izmir University of Economics’ Amphitheater. The musical performance titled, “Cumhuriyete Giden Yol; Gelibolu 1915 (Path to the Republic; Gallipoli 1915)” by Aviation Technical Schools Command took place at IUE Amphitheater. Students of Turkish Air Force NCO College Department of Air Traffic Control and teachers of Provincial Directorate of National Education took the stage for the musical written and composed by Military Trainer Zafer Suntekin. The audience rose to its feet and applauded loudly.
PULSES FOR HEALTH
Students of IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management cooked keşkek (a dish of mutton or chicken and coarsely ground wheat), aşure (Noah’s Pudding), and buğday aşı (wheat dish) the old fashioned way as part of the UN’s 2016 International Year of Pulses celebrations. A special menu of “pulses” was offered to the guests at the dinner event co-organized by Izmir Chamber of Commerce, Izmir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, and Izmir University of Economics.
CHANGE BRINGS SUCCESS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Graduate School of Business brought top level managers together with Erez Tsalik, known as the ‘Innovation Guru’ at a workshop to develop innovative thought. Erez Tsalik, Senior Facilitator and Director of SIT Innovation and Design Thinking stated that success wouldn’t be possible as long as managers oppose to change.
CREATIVITY KNOWS NO BOUNDS
They reflected their imagination and love onto the t-shirts. Some of them drew a big, red heart for their families, and some drew their cozy homes. Individuals with disabilities drew pictures first and then transferred their drawings to t-shirts with the help of lecturers of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.
UNIQUE DESIGNS BY FUTURE FASHION DESIGNERS
High school students designed their prom dresses. Senanur Bazan, student from Seferihisar Asil Nadir Anatolian High School, came in first place with her design at the “3rd Fashion Design Contest among High School Students” organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design. Buse Kurt, from Balçova Nevvar Salih İşgören Anatolian High School, came in second place, and Neslihan Alim, from IMKB Anatolian Vocational High School, came in third place at the contest where 102 students from 47 high schools attended.
ENERGY; FOCAL POINT OF TURKS AND CHINESE
Yu Hongyang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Ankara, who was a keynote speaker at the 5th Energy Management and Policies Workshop organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Sustainable Energy, said that energy was the focal point of Turkish-Chinese relations. Hongyang reported that China’s foreign dependency on oil reached to 60.0% in 2015, and therefore they would establish a new approach about energy security, and they tended towards renewable energy.
