CHANGE BRINGS SUCCESS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Graduate School of Business brought top level managers together with Erez Tsalik, known as the ‘Innovation Guru’ at a workshop to develop innovative thought. Erez Tsalik, Senior Facilitator and Director of SIT Innovation and Design Thinking stated that success wouldn’t be possible as long as managers oppose to change.
CREATIVITY KNOWS NO BOUNDS
They reflected their imagination and love onto the t-shirts. Some of them drew a big, red heart for their families, and some drew their cozy homes. Individuals with disabilities drew pictures first and then transferred their drawings to t-shirts with the help of lecturers of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.
UNIQUE DESIGNS BY FUTURE FASHION DESIGNERS
High school students designed their prom dresses. Senanur Bazan, student from Seferihisar Asil Nadir Anatolian High School, came in first place with her design at the “3rd Fashion Design Contest among High School Students” organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design. Buse Kurt, from Balçova Nevvar Salih İşgören Anatolian High School, came in second place, and Neslihan Alim, from IMKB Anatolian Vocational High School, came in third place at the contest where 102 students from 47 high schools attended.
ENERGY; FOCAL POINT OF TURKS AND CHINESE
Yu Hongyang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Ankara, who was a keynote speaker at the 5th Energy Management and Policies Workshop organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Sustainable Energy, said that energy was the focal point of Turkish-Chinese relations. Hongyang reported that China’s foreign dependency on oil reached to 60.0% in 2015, and therefore they would establish a new approach about energy security, and they tended towards renewable energy.
TEACHER TRAINING
Prospective teachers are becoming self-aware about violence against women. 47 prospective teachers are getting trained on how to use language that supports gender equality as part of the project initiated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Oruç Ertürk, Director of IUE Continuous Education Center (IUECEC).
‘A’ DESIGN AWARD FOR SFL SMART BUILDING
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), whose medium of instruction is English, has been awarded Silver A' Design Award for its new building of School of Foreign Languages equipped with smart classes. The building has been awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the category of Architecture, Building and Structure Design by the grand jury panel of the A’ Design Award & Competition that took place in Italy. With this award, the design excellence of Izmir University of Economics has been recognized on international stage.
INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) shook hands with Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan and KAIST Rector Prof. Dr. Kang Sung Mo. The MOU will enable exchange of academicians and students. Also, lecturer from KAIST department of engineering will work at IUE.
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF THE HANDICAPPED
There are all together 8.5 million handicapped people in Turkey, however, 97% of this group are deprived of education opportunities. The experts state that handicapped individuals need continuous education and that parents seeking inclusive education are turned down by the schools.
EXPEDITION TO ITOB
Students of IUE Faculty of Engineering and Computer Sciences went on an expedition to Izmir Chamber of Commerce Organized Industrial Zone (ITOB) and Izmir Science Park. They met with managers of the companies in the region, and took first steps for new projects. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees and CEO of ITOB, welcomed the students onsite, stated that there were 360 factories within the region and he said, "I hope you get a chance to own a factory here after you graduate, or develop a project for Izmir Science Park.”
IUE STUDENTS HAVE MUCH TO OFFER
As Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has raised the “Entrepreneurship Flag” up to the flagpole for the 2nd time with the most number of enterprising projects in “Bu Gençlikte İş Var” titled competition organized by Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD), it was awarded the 3rd place in the grand finale. Nurdan Boğa, student of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design and her team mate Yağmur Boğa came in third place with their, “Sen Fısılda Dünya Duysun” (You Whisper and the Whole World Will Hear) titled project at the contest where 3 thousand 195 university students participated with one thousand 292 projects.
