NEW WAY TO PUT OUT FIRES
Thousands of acres of forestland, houses are burned in fires in Turkey each year. According to the statistics by the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, General Directorate of Forestry of Turkey, 3 thousand 219 hectare areas got damaged due to 2 thousand 150 forest fires in 2015. Dilara Kartalkaya, student at IUE Department of Industrial Design, wanted to take precaution against increasing number of fires and fatalities in summer, and she developed a support system for firefighters, and her inspiration for this project was a bug in Canada.
‘RIGHT CHOICES SHAPE YOUR FUTURE’
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is supporting prospective students to make realistic and conscious undergraduate and associate education choices with experienced experts after a difficult exam period. The experts, in addition to 60 IUE students and all academic units, will be guiding the prospective university students at 14 guidance and information tables set up at IUE Conference Hall.
FINDING BRIDAL SHOES TO COMPLEMENT THE WEDDING GOWN
Choosing the right pair of shoes that complement your clothing isn’t always easy. Especially for brides to be, comfort, in addition to looks, is extremely important. Gökhan Talay, Lecturer at Footwear Design and Manufacturing Program, IUE Vocational School, stated that the foot structure of the bride, the location where the ceremony will take place and the season played a major role in bridal shoe selection.
ORDERING FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT AT THE RESTAURANTS
There will be no more hassling when ordering food at the restaurants. “SociRest” will put an end to being served late or served wrong meals at the restaurants. Thanks to the software developed by entrepreneurial students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), customers will be able to download the menus to their smart phones and place their order. They will also be able to pay with their credit cards without having to go the cash register.
AMERICAN AWARD TO TURKISH HORROR CINEMA
Students of IUE Faculty of Communication, who bring a new perspective to horror cinema in Turkey, were granted “The Spotlight Horror Film Awards Silver Awards” that was held in Georgia, Atlanta, USA. Juniors İlay Onar, Aybüke Özdemir, İbrahim Katmerci, and Göksu Hacıbekirler, under the guidance of Research Assistant Hazal Bayar from IUE Faculty of Communication, came back with an award for their 14-minute short film named “Orkide ve Eşek Arısı (The Orchid and The Wasp)”.
NAMES FAIL TO STAND THE TEST OF TIME
Our names that define each of us belong to a specific era. Turkish families do get inspired by eras when they are naming their children. Children are named after leading names in TV series, films, literature, football, or politics. However, the name “Zeynep” is the most popular name in each era. Also, Izmir is the most attention grabbing city when it comes to variety of names.
CREATIVE DESIGN FOR SILK WORMS
The story of Turkish silk’s defiance against time is coming to life again. Silkworms will remain alive and continue to produce silk. The project of Berk Babayiğit, student at IUE Department of Industrial Design, allowed silkworms to produce silk without spinning a cocoon and then turning into a moth and staying alive.
DON’T GET YOUR HOLIDAY RUINED!
As Turkey is on a 9 day Ramadan Holiday, the seaside towns are fully packed due to hot weather. The experts warn citizens who will be spending their holiday at sea or at pools, and point out that properly trained lifeguard should be employed at such places. Nursun Üstünkarlı, Lecturer at IUE Vocational School of Health Services, Paramedic Program, stated that an average of one thousand 500 people died due to drowning in Turkey, and people opted for sea and pools in order to get relief from hot weather during bayram holiday.
AMBASSADORS OF IZMIR FROM IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is sending off ambassadors of Izmir to the four corners of the earth. IUE, which has been hosting 46 students from 40 countries, has graduated 21 African and Asian EXPO scholarship students who adore Turkey. Izmir has been candidate for EXPO 2015 and 2020. 46 students from Africa, Europe, Asia, and America continents benefitted from the scholarship up until now, and 21 new graduates, who have completed their education, will be representing Izmir Economics in their countries with a spirit of entrepreneurship.
GLORIOUS GRADUATION AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
IUE Graduates of Faculties of Communication, Law, Fine Arts and Design, and School of Applied Management Sciences, Vocational School, Vocational School of Justice, and Vocational School of Health Services who successfully completed their studies in 2015 – 2016 Academic Year, were granted their diplomas. The students threw their caps into the air proudly at the second of the graduation ceremonies that took place at IUE Amphitheatre.
