You will be able to have access to information, such as budgeting, activities, weather forecast, interesting facts about the place to be visited, at one source. The mobile application titled, “Wress”, prepared by the young entrepreneurs of Izmir University of Economics, will be gathering all travel enthusiasts together at one platform. The application will be available in June. The application, prepared by Duygu Keşkek, a junior at IUE Department of Computer Engineering, and Yasin Sinan Kayacan, also a junior at Department of Software Engineering, will make traveling easier, be time and cost efficient for travelers, and keep track of previous travelers.
‘TURKEY’S HARSH EXAM’
As Turkey is getting ready to accept 6 thousand 156 refugees from the islands, the experts point out to the inadequate number of camps, report that danger bells are ringing for Turkey. Pırıl Erçoban, Administrative Coordinator for Izmir Mülteci – Der (Association for Solidarity with Refugees), who attended the “Syrian Refugees in Izmir” titled seminar organized by Department of Sociology, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), indicated that the Europe did not want new transitions.
HANDOVER CEREMONY AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Prof. Dr. Can Muğan has become the new Rector of Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Prof. Dr. Muğan, Former Dean of Faculty of Business, who took over this position from former Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, became the first female rector of the University. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and the Members of the Board presented a plaque of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Esen for his hard work and dedication before the handover ceremony at the Conference Hall. Prof. Dr. Esen will take office as the consultant for President of IUE Board of Trustees, and continue to work as a lecturer.
DELICIOUS FINALE
Kaan Yürekli, student of Department of Culinary Arts and Management, Izmir University of Economics, represented Izmir at the Mazda Turkey’s "Lezzete Götüren Marka" contest, and became a finalist with his “imambayıldı” (stuffed eggplant dish) and “revani” (baked semolina dessert) recipes. The recipes of Yürekli, one of the three finalists, will be published both in Turkish and English in a cookbook.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Technology Transfer Office (TTO) has been the only Foundation University to be supported by TUBITAK(Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey). Technology Transfer Office, established within the University, will provide support to entrepreneurial students, youth, academicians, and the business world; it will be a guide to turn innovative ideas into “reality”.

IUE STUDENTS’ SUCCESS IN TRANSLATION
Ahmedşah Bilgi, senior from IUE Department of Translation and Interpretation who came in first place, and Yasemin Memiş and Mustafa Serhat Atalay, who shared the second prize at the 2016 Young Translators Competition held by the Ministry of EU Affairs, received their awards from Rauf Engin Soysal, Undersecretary of Ministry of European Union Affairs. Prof. Dr. Lütfiye Oktar, Head of IUE Department of Translation and Interpretation, accompanied the students to the ceremony that took place in Ankara.
TURKEY IS AGING
Turkey is no longer a young population. Proportion of elderly population, which is increasing each year, reached 8.2% in 2015. Melahat Kızıl, Lecturer at IUE Vocational School of Health Services, Elderly Care Program, commented about Turkish Statistical Institute’s data and she said that increase in elderly population required some serious state policies. She said, “Rapid increase in elderly population pose a threat in terms of social security systems. If we suppose that the elderly has at least one chronic disease, it will be a significant burden in terms of health and care issues.”
SMART PILL DISPENSER
Patients, who have hard time following their prescriptions, will soon find a relief. The “Smart Pill Dispenser” project, developed by students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), will put an end to the worries of patients who wonder if they took their pill, if they took it on time, or if they took it more than one time. The system, intended for patients who need to take multiple pills regularly, classify the pills based on times and their types. When it is time to take the pill, it drops down to the box, and warns the patient via sound and vibration.
