IZMIR WILL BECOME A CITY OF DESIGN
Izmir is getting ready to become the 121st design city around the world. Members of International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) and universities offering education on interior design in Turkey came together at interior experience themed “8th Interior Architecture Department Heads” meeting hosted by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. After the meeting, Izmir will be the only city in Turkey to sign IFI Declaration, which is signed by 120 cities worldwide, on Saturday, April 23.
BEST SPEECH SKILLS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), which delivers instruction in English, added another success to its list. Yaren Öner, freshman at IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, came in first place among students from 81 cities at the Best Contest Turkey speech contest. Öner won a prize money and one week of vacation.
IUE’S SUCCESS IN SAILING
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Sailing Club ranked in third place in IRC 2 class at CAMPUS CUP Sailing Competitions that took place at Marmaris. The club members Nogay Dökmeci, Nazmi Birkan Başbuğ, İnanç Haliloğlu, Simay Şen, Tutku Aydın, Simge Dabak, Oya Bilici, and Deniz Ofoğlu qualified for a third place trophy at the competitions in which sailing clubs of 35 universities participated.
12 MENUS BY 12 CHEFS TO CELEBRATE
Aegean dishes turned into a feast of flavor in 12 different menus prepared by 12 chefs. 12 chefs, all members of Izmir Chefs Association, prepared regional meals with Aegean herbs with the students of Department of Culinary Arts and Management of Izmir University of Economics as part of the 15th anniversary celebrations of the University. The guests also identified the dishes they would like to see on the menu of Aegean cuisine.

Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, pointed that the University became a very important brand name in Izmir in a very short time, and he said, "New discoveries and inventions lie ahead of us. Therefore, we will not call it a world university anymore. From now on, Izmir University of Economics is the ‘University of the Future’. We will produce knowledge and technology for humanity.”

The “VCD T-SHIRTS 2006-2016 Exhibition”, prepared as part of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the University by the Department of Visual Communication Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, brought advertising industry representatives and students together.
THE ELDERLY SURFING THE WEB!
With the recent technological developments and accessibility, use of internet among the elderly is also becoming popular. Based on the Turkish Statistical Institute’s data, while the percentage of the elderly using the internet in Turkey was 5% in 2014, it increased up to 5.6% in 2015. Proportion of elderly males that use computer and internet was 8.8% and for elderly females it was 2.8% in 2015. The experts point out to increased use of internet with the technology becoming widespread and the elderly population’s eagerness to use it.
FUTURE OF THE WORLD DEPENDS ON THE SOLUTION TO THE MIGRATON PROBLEM
Ekrem Demirtaş, IUE President of Board of Trustees, stated that the world would have no future if the migration problem was not solved. The “Izmir International Immigration and Refuge Symposium”, organized by Izmir Bar Association with the joint participation of 5 universities in Izmir, took place at Izmir University of Economics. Aziz Kocaoğlu, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Ekrem Demirtaş, IUE President of Board of Trustees, Attorney Aydın Özcan, President of Izmir Bar Association, and many guests have attended the symposium.
IUE SCIENCE COLLEGE ON ITS WAY
Izmir University of Economics is creating its own system for Science College. Officials from the University visited South Korea and observed educational institutions from elementary schools to higher education institutions, and signed protocols for student and academician exchange.
FIRST STEP TOWARDS A CAREER
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) brought its students and graduates together with human resources managers as part of the Career Day Event. Human resources officials from 18 companies interviewed students and graduates at the event organized by IUE Career Guidance Center.
