FLOATING DOCK BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
The floating dock, which was designed as a proposal to diversify the use of coastlines of Turkey, made a debut today in Pasaport, Izmir. The dock, which was designed by Gudjon Erlendsson, Can Sucuoğlu, and Elif Ensari, Lecturers at Izmir University of Economics-Department of Architecture and Ertunç Hünkar, Graduate of Izmir University of Economics-Department of Architecture, with the support of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, will be on display at 2nd Istanbul Design and Architecture Biennial organized by Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) after being displayed in Izmir.
SAFE SPORTSWEAR BY IUE DESIGNERS
Getting engaged in sports activities night-time became more safe thanks to IUE students’ design. Merve Sünnetçioğlu and İlkay Sarıkaya, Students of IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, made people doing sports more visible with the “led” system attached on sportswear.
NANO DESIGN BY IUE STUDENT
Boiling water for hot drinks at offices just got easier with Nano technology. With the electric water kettle designed by Arman Altınyay, Student of Department of Industrial Design, IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, 19 litres of water will be heated by two Nano coated glass pipe.
PARENTAL SUPPORT AGAINST SCHOOL PHOBIA
The experts pointed out that the parents needed to support their children in case their enthusiasm and anxiety turned into stress during the times when millions of students take the first steps to new academic year. It was reported that students might experience school phobia in all stages of education life and that the families needed to avoid behaviours such as blaming, scolding, and punishing. The solution is showing understanding and support.
THE YOUTH CARES ABOUT PHYSICAL APPERANCE
The youth believes that their overweight peers will not make many friends. In a study as part of The European Union Project titled “EDGE: Education and Gender”, where 444 young people from 6 European countries participated, it has been suggested that overweight girls and boys had less friends. Teenagers between 13 – 16 from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Norway, Poland, and Turkey identified fat figures as “lazy and “loner”, while the thin ones were identified as, “popular”, “successful” and “happy” in their answers.
ALLOWANCE, FIRST STEP TOWARDS SAVINGS!
As the millions of students are waiting for the new academic year, parents will be going through the issue of allowance. While children have endless needs, families are on a budget indicating the experts and say that students need to be educated about the importance of saving.
HEALTHY EATING IS KEY TO SUCCESS
As the new academic year is about to begin, the experts point out that healthy and balanced diet would have positive effect on the school success of students in addition to their physical and mental developments. They say that nutrition plays significant role in lessening learning difficulties in a challenging and tiring education period.
UNIVERSITY COLLABORATIONS THAT WILL PAVE THE WAY FOR YOUTH
University students will be gaining work experience in European Union countries. Total of 79 students from Ege, Dokuz Eylül, Celal Bayar, Katip Çelebi universities, under the coordination of Izmir University of Economics, will be performing internship at organizations and institutions in European Union countries organized by Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Each student will receive one thousand 500 Euros for 3 month Erasmus internship. Total amount of grants will be 118 thousand 500 Euros.
NEW GENERATION PLAYGROUNDS
Parks will be redesigned with “Toys for the New Generation Playgrounds” contest. The contest, co-held with Izmir University of Economics and CEMER, focuses on playground designs for the new generation who does not go out to play. The emphasis will be on two playground designs, one for children and one for adults, at the contest where 75 participants nationwide will join.
