IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS SETTING A COURSE FOR SUCCESS WITH WORLD FAMOUS CONSULTANTS
Prof. Dr. Seeram Ramakrishna, the Director of Centre for Nanotechnology, National University of Singapore, who is known for his international studies, became a consultant to Izmir University of Economics. And Prof. Dr. Philip Kitchen, one of the leading professors in the field of Strategic Marketing at ESC Rennes School of Business, and who was listed in the Top 50 list of gurus who have influenced the future of marketing in survey listing, joined Izmir University of Economics as a visiting lecturer. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Ramakrishna, and Prof. Dr. Kitchen came together to work on planning the next 10 years of the University, setting a course, and promoting the University’s name in the international arena at the “International Consultancy Council Meeting” that took place at IUE Conference Hall.

Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) lent a hand to Van. Serhat Mirkan Acar and Tuğberk Boyacı, freshmen at IUE Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, experienced the joy of earthquake victims in Karaağaç Village in Van up close with the 71 boxes full of winter clothes, shoes, boots, comforters, toys, etc they took there.
OBESITY THREATENS IZMIR’S FUTURE!
Based on a study conducted among students aged 7 – 18 in Izmir, it turned out that one in every 4 kids is subject to becoming obese. The study titled, “Obesity and overweight prevalence in students aged between 7 – 18 in Izmir”, conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. İlker Daştan, Lecturer at IUE Faculty of Health Sciences, analysed the body mass indexes of 2 thousand 200 students in 24 schools.
CULINARY BRIDGE BETWEEN IUE AND FRANCE
The young chefs of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will learn the art of cuisine from the world famous chefs of France. Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management will get a chance to receive training for 4 months as part of the agreement made between IUE and Les Toques Blanches Lyonnaises Association established by world famous chefs of France.

High school seniors will design their own prom dresses, and the most successful 3 designs will be sewn at Izmir University of Economics as a reward. GENES WILL BE RE-CODED TO DEFEAT CANCER CELLS
Turkish and French scientists came together to prevent cancer cells from growing and get rid of them without damaging the healthy ones. The biochemists, electrical and electronics engineers, mathematicians, who initiated a research titled “Modelling, Analysing, and Optimum Control of Intracellular Networks Under Parameter Uncertainty”, aim to come up with ways for patients to take cancer drugs without damaging the healthy cells by studying the interaction between the genes.
E-TOHUM SUCCESS BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICSS ENTREPRENEURS
Projects developed at Embryonix Centre within Izmir University of Economics, made it in the first 40 among 2000 applications in e-tohum organization that brings entrepreneurs and investors together. The projects named GIFTEK and PALWAR, developed at IUE Embryonix Centre, attracted great attention at E-tohum Entrepreneurship Summit, a market place who aims to bring entrepreneurs that want to launch their own internet businesses and companies, investors, professionals together. Project owners meet with the investors to get support for their innovative ideas.
‘TURKEY’S FRAGILITY SHOULD NOT SURPRISE ANYONE’
Experts have reported that Turkey being listed among the most fragile 15 emerging economies by US Federal Reserve (FED) should not come as a surprise to anyone. Economists indicated that the Turkish economy was experiencing fragility due to low savings rates, high current deficits, and high ratio of unemployment. US Federal Reserve (FED) announced the fragility index results for 15 emerging economies the other day. Based on this index Turkey, Brazil, India, Indonesia and South Africa are the most fragile countries where as Asian countries such as South Korea, Taiwan, and China are considered the least fragile ones.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS; HELPS IMPROVE THE ART LIFE IN THE CITY
Old historical houses in the back alleys of Izmir’s Historical Kemeraltı Bazaar are being renovated to serve the art world. Thomas Keogh, Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, who got highly impressed by the historical texture of the city, brought one of the historical houses on Ismet Inonu Street, where Ismet Inonu Museum House is also located at, into use by students and international artists. In his ‘Maquis Projects Kemeraltı’ titled art space, Keogh helps international artists to get to know Izmir better and carry out their art work. Meanwhile, students of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, get a chance to gain experience from these international artists.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is set out to meet the health needs of the society. Eko-Health Meetings are organized by IUE Faculty of Health Sciences to discuss and inform the public on current health issues. The guests, each an expert in their respective fields, share information on different topics as cold, flu, obesity, elderly care, patient care at home, etc. at the informative meetings conducted at public places.
