Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will be representing Turkey at the International Furnishing Show (IMM Cologne 2014) that will be held at Cologne, Germany. IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Departments of Industrial Design, and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design will represent the country with 17 pieces of furniture they designed at the fair that will be held on January 13 – 19. The furniture projects designed by students will be displayed at the fair, where only IUE from Turkey has been invited, as part of their Furniture Design course co-conducted by Departments of Industrial Design, and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. 

New Year cookies have been baked to make the children, in need of protection, happy. The New Year cookies, prepared by the students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management as part of their Pastry course, are on sale for the benefit of Turkish Foundation for Children in Need of Protection (KORUNCUK). All the funds raised by this sale will be used for the children within the foundation. Each of the Santa Claus, snowman, snowflake, gingerbread man, and reindeer shaped cookies were baked to support protecting the children. 

The founding organization of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Izmir Chamber of Commerce Health and Education Foundation, welcomed 2014 with its members at a New Year’s party held at IUE Conference Hall. The members enjoyed a night of dances and songs, and wished each other a happy new year at the party hosted by Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of the Executive Board of ITO Health and Education Foundation. Chairman Demirtaş and the Executive Board cut the New Year’s cake together.

Designer students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) set out to make ill children happy. The students made doll clothes and decorated them as part of the “Yaren Dolls Project”, co-organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design and Bostanlı Rotary Club, which will later be sold for the benefit of children who have leukaemia, heart and kidney problems. The raised funds will be donated to children hospitalized at Behçet Uz Children’s Hospital.  

Kids are growing up with the creative toys that come in boxes. Eda Evdüzen, who launched a company named Kidolindo within the body of IUE Embriyonix Centre, help kids develop faster and allow kids and parents to spend a quality time together with the toys she prepares.

Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Public Relations and Advertising gained another victory in corporate communication field at the 25^th Young Communicators Competition, organized by Aydın Doğan Foundation. The young communicators, who came in first place at last year’s competition also, became the pride and joy of the University.  

The fashion show titled, “Keşif (Discovery)”, prepared by the students of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, took place at the Agora Shopping Mall. 10 senior students of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design displayed their designs skills at the 2013 – 2014 academic year fall fashion show that attracted great deal of attention. The models, who presented the designs, were also the students of Izmir University of Economics.

First steps towards training the future entrepreneurs and leaders have been taken at the International RYLA (The Rotary Youth Leadership Award) meeting organized by the lead of Urla Rotary Club and support of Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Approximately 80 young people attended a two-day seminar on “Young Entrepreneurship and Leadership” at the organization that was held at Euphoria Aegean Resort Hotel, Seferihisar.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) hosted Etohum Izmir organization which brought entrepreneurs and investors together. The steps, which young entrepreneurs need to follow in order to put their ideas into action, were introduced at Etohum event that took place at Swiss Hotel Grand Efes.  Inspiring seminars on how to put business ideas into action, and establish businesses were delivered to the participants at the event, hosted by Izmir University of Economics, supported by IZKA, and organized by Etohum. 

As the smart phones entered our lives, they brought along a thriving accessory market. Ece Gümüş, a graduate of Izmir University of Economics, who double majored in Department of Business Administration and Department of International Trade and Finance, turned her phone case designs, which she started as a hobby, into a business. While celebrities as Buse Terim, Sezin Erbil, and Bengü favour the brand “CINCO” by Ece Gümüş, some 17 thousand followers on the internet, choose her designs as accessories for their phones.
