SIGNIFICANT SUPPORT TO IZMIR FILM “KARNAVAL” FROM IUE
Izmir University of Economics became a sponsor to the film Karnaval, which is considered to be an overall “Izmir film”. The film is the first feature film by the young director Can Kılcıoğlu. The premiere of the film was held at Karaca Theatre to meet with the audience where the film crew also attended to support EÇEV (Aegean Contemporary Education Foundation).
THE NEW COMERS GOT TO KNOW THEIR SCHOOL
Students of Izmir University of Economics attended an orientation program to familiarize themselves with the international standard education they will receive. Those, who passed preparatory class, received in-depth information about the academic life they will be leading during their 4 year professional education. Students also got a chance to witness the activities of the student clubs and became members of the social activity clubs their hearts desired. The “orientation” program was a huge turn out with in-depth information on programs.
WHO IS THE REAL BOSS?
While the dollar-interest rate-Central Bank triangle continues to confuse the public, experts claim that the real boss is the market itself during these exceptional times. Prof. Dr. Hakan Yetkiner, Vice Dean of Izmir University of Economics Department of Business Administration and Lecturer at Department of Economics, stated that the Central Bank needed to meet the expectations and he said, “All the rational players in the market are aware of the fact that outflow of foreign currency would be experienced as long as the interest rates stay the same and the exchange rate would increase. The Central Bank needs to stop swimming against the tide and adjust the interest rates upwards parallel to USA.”
WAVING HIS NATIONAL FLAG IN AZERBAIJAN
Graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are enjoying the success of blending their theoretical and practical information together in business life. Hazar Zorluer, graduate of IUE Department of Business Administration-Accounting and Auditing Option Program, has reached a 10 million dollar investment in coop and egg production in Azerbaijan, a business he started while he still was a student. Zorluer, made 3 and a half million TL in endorsements last year, and as he made a name for himself by exporting coops and eggs to the most difficult parts of the world, he sent 150 thousand chicks to war torn Syria today. Zorluer also exports his products to countries as Iran, Iraq, Macedonia, Georgia, Tanzania, etc.
IUE STILL HOLDS THE DOORS OPEN FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE!
Izmir University of Economics allows additional quota applications until September 30 for those who dream about a successful future. Ekrem Demirtaş, The President of the IUE Board of Trustees, stated that their doors for a brighter future were still open, and they were hoping to see the young people at Izmir University of Economics who wanted to get ready for a bright future with world standard education without having to lose another year.
GREEN LIGHT TO THE SUMMIT
Izmir University of Economics students are proud to have represented Turkey abroad successfully. This year’s “Challenge Future”, youth programme, was organized by CEEMAN-Central and Eastern European Management Association Network in Slovenia. EGIAD (Aegean Young Businessmen's Association) and Damla Aktan, Challenge Future Chapters Network President, and students Neslihan Dülger, Ali Dayıoğlu, Bengü Güngör attended the organization on behalf of Turkey. Both EGIAD and Damla Aktan (IUE) were given the “Inspiration of the Year 2013 Award” for their local contributions to the countries with their, “The Future of Jobs” titled Project. The Turkish team’s success gave a green light to 2014 summit to be held in Turkey.
‘OUR GRADUATES WILL NOT RUN BUT FLY’
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is excited about starting off 2013 – 2014 Academic Year with its new students. IUE opened its doors for the 13th time to make its students reach their dream careers. The first ceremony of the new academic year started with observing a moment of silence. Ekrem Demirtaş, IUE President of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, IUE Rector, academicians, graduates and students observed a moment of silence. Singing the National Anthem was followed by laying a wreath at Ataturk Monument at Cumhuriyet Square.
IUE SPIRIT LEADS IN FASHION
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) draws attentions with its fashion graduates. Pınar Kaplankıran, one of the first graduates of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, puts her signature, as a Secretary General of Fashion Designers Association, under very important organizations that leads Turkish fashion. Kaplankıran, who has been taking many different positions at the Fashion Designers Association since 2007, is also the coordinator for important organizations like Pınar Istanbul Fashion Week, GalataModa Festival.
UNDERSTANDING REFUGEES
As civil wars cause people to leave their homelands behind, refugees and asylum seekers try to seek refuge in Turkey to survive and establish temporary homes. More than one thousand Syrian asylum seekers fled the war-torn country and asked Turkey for asylum since April 2011. They are trying to adjust to their new lives in refugee camps. The experts state that the refugees are doing nothing more than trying to save their lives, and the notion that they are guilty in the eyes of the society should be prevented. The increasing numbers of refugees, who are trying to establish separate living spaces, not necessarily limited to camps, take an important place on Turkey’s agenda.
WE NEED TO ENCOURAGE THE NEW GENERATION
Prof. Dr. Seeram Ramakrishna, the founding Co-Director of National University of Singapore (NUS) Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Initiative, stated that Turkey had a very young population and the new generations needed positive guidance to become socially beneficial individuals.
