IUE ESTABLISHES A NEW ROUTE
Izmir University of Economics established a new route for the next 10 years. IUE, one of the leading universities of Turkey, and the first Foundation University of Aegean Region, conducted a “2013 – 2023 Strategic Plan Search Conference” to brainstorm how to provide more qualified education and better services to its national and foreign national students.
FULL SUPPORT FROM IUE TO IZMIR’S EXPO 2020 CANDIDACY
Izmir University of Economics is hosting students as part of its support campaign for Izmir’s EXPO 2020 candidacy. IUE grants scholarships for students from 40 countries as part of Izmir’s EXPO competition for 2015 and 2020. Izmir has been in the competition since 2008. EXPO Scholarship holders from Africa, Europe, Asia, and America continents have the opportunity to shape their future at Izmir University of Economics. 14 new students in 2013-2014 academic year will receive EXPO scholarships in addition to the 32 students so far.
MATH GENIUSES VISITED IUE
The scientists put math, which lies at the bottom of each development of present day, under the microscope at Izmir University of Economics in order to share information. The expert mathematicians discussed the mystical world of equations at “The Sixth International Workshop on Differential Equations and Applications” (WDEA) that was organized by IUE Department of Mathematics.
STUDENTS ARE SHAPING THE FUTURE OF EUROPE
The future industrial engineers from all over Europe came together at Izmir University of Economics and assessed Turkey in terms of 3 different dimensions. The members of European Students of Industrial Engineering and Management (ESTIEM) analysed Turkey in terms of economics, politics, and culture. Izmir University of Economics (IUE), which is among the seven universities in Turkey that was accepted to ESTIEM, hosted European students and promoted Turkey.
CHAMPIONS WORKING AT THE SAME JOB!
Top students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), carry their achievements into the business world by teaming up. Güray Kurşunoğlu, top student of IUE Graduate Degree Programs in 2012, and Canan Yaranoğlu, top student of the University in 2013 joined their forces at KPMG, an international public accountant firm. Güray Kurşunoğlu, the manager of the international firm that provides services in auditing, is teaching the fine details of the job to Canan Yaranoğlu, who started working as a tax assistant next day of her graduation ceremony.
IUE WELCOMES ITS NEW STUDENTS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) opened its doors to new students. Students, who enrolled to the University just before the start of the new academic year, were welcomed to school by Prof. Dr. Tunçdan Baltacıoğlu, the Rector of IUE. During the registration process that took place at IUE Conference Hall, Baltacıoğlu accompanied the future leading names of the business world, and chatted with students and became part of their dreams.
‘FABRIC IS IMPORTANT WHEN IT COMES TO UNIFORMS’
Families are getting ready to welcome a new shopping spree with the return of uniforms at schools. While the students were allowed to dress freely last academic year, this year, the parents will vote whether to continue with uniforms or not, following the “Regulation for Making Changes on the Regulation for Dress Code of the Students affiliated to Ministry of Education” by the Ministry of Education that was published in the Official Gazette. There are approximately 3 million employees working in the sector that produces school uniforms. Families, on the other hand, go through the hassle of finding the best quality and most affordable products for their children.
ARE WE FAILING AGAIN IN IDENTIFYING FEMALE CANDIDATES
It appeared that political parties failed in identifying female candidates prior to every local election. The fact that there are only 22 female mayors, linked to political parties based on the last local election results, only sums up the desperate situation. The experts, who point out that “a participative democracy” is only possible when women have equal presence in every level of political parties, indicate women should become real candidates not some stalking horses on lists.
THE PARKS ARE GETTING MORE COLOURFUL WITH NEW GENERATION OF TOYS
Once upon a time, children played games outside; blind man’s bluff, hide and seek, tip-cat, taw, and many more... Today, families cannot send their children outside to play anymore. Children stuck in apartment buildings cannot get rid of their energies. Families try to come up with solutions to bring their children back to normal life when they see their kids hazed in front of the computer. Companies, who witness this parent-child dilemma, come up with functional solutions through design at children’s parks.
DREAMS COME TO LIFE THROUGH DESIGN
Every girl wants to wear her dream wedding gown one day. But sometimes her body type or the colour of her skin does not allow this dream to come true. A young designer in Izmir, set out to make the dreams of young girls come true, and established her own brand. Yeliz Cengiz, a gradute of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Fashion and Textile Design, shares the dreams of brides-to-be with her own brand she established in Alsancak.
