SPANISH BREEZE AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Designers who got inspired by the movie, “Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” by world famous Spanish Director Pedro Almodóvar, added a new dimension to the visual communication campaign of the film with their workshop. Turkish and Spanish academicians worked together to come up with a trailer, posters, and promotional products for an imaginary film.
“I LOVE İZMİR” GIFTS FOR CRUISE TOURISM
Izmir University of Economics is leading the way for its graduates. Life of Mustafa Kaynakcı, who is in the souvenir business in historical Kemeraltı bazaar, was reshaped when he completed Executive MBA Program at IUE. Kaynakcı used his training and created “I love İzmir” brand souvenirs, and satisfied a need in that sector. Kaynakcı is offering souvenirs especially for cruise tourists visiting Izmir.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS WILL TRAIN ‘ARBITRATORS’
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Law has been authorized by the Ministry of Justice to train arbitrators especially to resolve commercial disputes. Disputes between parties will be resolved by ‘arbitrators’ trained at IUE Faculty of Law; the burdens of the courtrooms will be reduced.
TURKISH SOFTWARE DEVELOPER’S 3 PATENTS BECAME A SHOT IN THE ARM FOR USA
Turkish scientists shaped the US health system with the patents they obtained. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Süleyman Ünlütürk, Vice Dean of Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Engineering and Computer Sciences, and Lecturer at Department of Software Engineering, reduced the workload of US nurses, and helped them attain a fair work system through 3 different software programs he developed on behalf of American “General Electric” company. He also developed a system that allows access to emergency patients’ information only by nurses.
HEROINES ARE AT THE NATIVE LAND OF SILK!
Izmirian academicians got inspired by tales and designed heroines’ silk gowns. The exhibition, co-organized by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, is open for visitors at Merinos Textile Industry Museum until November 30. Lecturers of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Fashion and Textile Design moved the dreamy gowns of heroines to Bursa, the native land of silk.
TURKISH HOUSEHOLD CUT THEIR COAT ACCORDING TO THEIR CLOTH WHEN IT CAME TO BUYING HOUSES
It was stated that Turkish household took the economic data and cycles into consideration and adjusted their budget accordingly when purchasing housing. Based on the 3rd quarter home sales statistics, announced by Turkish Statistical Institute, 293 thousand 318 homes changed hands in Turkey between the months of July-September. Istanbul had the largest share with 18.4% in 54 thousand 34 home sales. Ankara followed that with 11.7% in 34 thousand 269 home sales. Izmir ranked in third place with 6.1% in 17 thousand 940 home sales. The least sales happened in Hakkâri with 24 sales.
“ACT OF KINDNESS” BY IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) brought the leading names of the society together with the students to start an “act of kindness” movement. Student volunteers, who select “Civic and Environmental Engagement Projects” course, which was initiated as of 2013 – 2014 Academic year, will lead the society with the sustainable projects they will develop.
MATHEMATICAL THEOREM FOR FINANCIAL CRISES
Turkish mathematicians developed new theorems on crises, issue that finance sector struggles with. The theorem “Marshall-Olkin Distributions: Advances in Theory and Applications”, presented by Cemal Murat Özkut, Research Asst. at IUE Department of Mathematics and thesis advisor Prof. Dr. İsmihan Bayramoğlu, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Science, at the symposium in Bologna, attracted a great deal of attention.
THE AFRICAN BUSINESSWOMEN SUPPORTED “EXPO IZMIR”
Businesswomen from 13 African countries, who came to Izmir invited by Izmir Chamber of Commerce (ITO) Businesswomen Council, performed zeibek dance together with Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Folk Dance Club, and gave their full support for Izmir’s EXPO 2020 candidacy. The businesswomen from Benin, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Mauritania, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Uganda, and Niger had a tour of Izmir University of Economics and met with the EXPO Scholarship students at the University.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS BUILT A BRIDGE BETWEEN TURKISH-JAPANESE DESIGN
Japanese and Turkish interior architects believe that day care centres, where the future of each country, the children, receive their initial education at, are not given enough importance, so they combined their design forces together for bright minds of future. Interior architects from Chiba University, Japan, and Izmir University of Economics (IUE), are making new synthesis through educational collaboration. Prof. Dr. Kaname Yanagisawa, Head of Department of Architecture of Chiba University and his 9 students, came to IUE to design “day care centre” with interior architecture students.
