Pilot trainings of European Union Project titled, “iSIMPLY: Innovative Social Media Pedagogy Learning Pathways", which have been carried out by Izmir University of Economics Regional Development, Urban, and Environment Research and Application Centre (EKOKENT), have been completed in Izmir. The participants were informed about the use of social media tools in marketing field at the event where England, France, Denmark, Romania, and Greece take part as the project partners. The similar pilot trainings took place in Greece, France, and Turkey concurrently.  The trainings were delivered by Department of Business Administration lecturers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Atik and Asst. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Örten Tuğrul. IUE students, who successfully completed the training, were awarded their certificates in a ceremony. 

Izmir University of Economics- Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Visual Communication Design held a workshop titled, “Designing with and for the User: the Power of Ecological Thinking’. The Department hosted Professor Emeritus Jorge D. Frascara from Alberta University, and his business partner Dr. Fabiola Guillermina Noël. 37 participants studies about the impact of the designed objects on users at the workshop.

Old people and those who have difficulty standing up for a long time will be able to take a bath comfortably thanks to the special bath tub designed by Pelinsu Babacanlar, a senior at IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design. Babacanlar, with her design named “BOURN”, stated that they also prevented injuries caused by wet and slippery surfaces.  

The children drew about the nurses of their dreams. The results for the “nurses in children’s drawings” themed contest, which was co-organized by the academicians of Izmir University of Economics- Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, and Izmir Provincial Directorate of Health, have been announced. Total of 108 children, including children aged between 4-10 who are hospitalized at Tepecik Education Research Hospital and kindergartens in Gürçeşme, Balçova, and Gaziemir that are affiliated to Izelman, participated in the contest. All the contestants were presented a pastel set at the contest that was Filli Boya. 

Students used their skills for future teachers. Sophomore students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design- Department of Fashion and Textile Design, designed t-shirts for the benefit of ‘Kurşun Kalem’ Education Foundation, which grants scholarships for students that want to become teachers. The t-shirts they designed will be on sale on May 27 at Bostanlı Suat Taşer Amphitheatre, where Kerem Görsev and Fatih Erkoç will take the stage. 

The experts remarked that the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases have increased, that it was transmitted through sexual partners, and often caused illnesses as infertility, cancer, and ectopic pregnancy. As the experts pointed out the importance of raising awareness among the youth, the lecturers of Faculty of Health Sciences of Izmir University of Economics enlightened the students on sexually transmitted disease and family planning and birth control methods.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) brought the issue of security of supply for natural gas markets to the table. The main theme of the Energy Management and Policies Workshop hosted by IUE Department of Sustainable Energy was “Security of Supply for Natural Gas Markets”. Süreyya Yücel Özden, Chief Supervisor of Executive Board of Gama Holding and Chair of DEIK Energy Work Council, was the keynote speaker at the workshop that took place at IUE Conference Hall. All the speakers began their speeches by expressing condolences to the families of the Soma mine disaster victims.

Yacht design is being reshaped in the hands of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) students. Students of IUE Graduate School of Social Sciences-Yacht Design Master’s Program and IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design learn about boat construction on-site and get ready for new generation of boats.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business launches the first e-certificate Twitter courses in Turkey. IUE Faculty of Business will provide courses on Brand Management, Causes of War, Money and Finance, Logistics Management, and Game Theory through its Twitter account on May 12 with #TwitAkademi hashtag.  The first part of the e-certificate program, open to everyone, will last for 5 weeks as 5 e-certificates. The lecturers will be teaching the courses in cyber world.
