SUPER HEROES BY STUDENTS
Secondary education students designed their own super heroes. The results for the “2nd Superheroes Saving the World Design Contest”, organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, have been announced. S. Dilara Vollack from Vali Vecdi Gönül Anadolu High School came in first place at the contest organized by IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, IUE Design Research and Application Centre (EKOTAM) with the support of Izmir Provincial Directorate of National Education where 66 contestants attended. Gamze Akbulak from Ali Osman Konakçı Girls’ Technical and Vocational High School, came in second place and Kadri Demircan Kaçel from Işılay Saygın Fine Arts High School came in third place. Students focused on environment friendly heroes who can prevent drought and radioactivity.
A LOOK AT ENGINEERING FROM USA AND TURKEY…
Izmir University of Economics, which offers Dual Diploma Undergraduate Program in various departments, provides higher education opportunities with different experiences for students. The Dual Diploma Program, co-coordinated by IUE Departments of Software, and Computer Engineering and State University of New York (SUNY) Fredonia Campus, allows academicians to share knowledge with students in both countries.
RELATION BETWEEN EDUCATION AND GENDER WAS A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION
A closing conference for a European Union Project titled, “Education and Gender (EDGE)”, where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Oruç Ertürk, Lecturer at IUE School of Foreign Languages, also participated as a researcher, took place at Izmir University of Economics. 89 participants from 17 countries, including India, discussed gender based education at the conference.
“FİKRET TÜRKMEN ARMAĞANI” INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL
‘Milli Folklor Uluslararası Kültür Araştırmaları Dergisi (National Folklore International Culture Research Journal) one of the two journals scanned by international indexes in the field of social sciences in Turkey, published its 101st Spring issue in honour of Lecturer Prof. Dr. Fikret Türkmen, Turkish Language Coordinator at IUE Faculty of Arts and Science. The journal includes an article on biography of Prof. Dr. Fikret Türkmen and his work, and interviews in addition to 21 scientific articles dedicated to him and 5 translated articles.
INNOVATIVE PROJECTS FROM IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), with 14 innovative projects, award-winning designs, and achievements of its graduates, took part in Turkey Innovation Week that was organized by Turkish Exporters Assembly. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees and Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector visited the students who became the centre of attraction with their projects that were based on practical solutions to various daily problems, and got briefed about their projects.
MATH IS DISCUSSED AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Mathematics hosted an international workshop titled, “Progress on Difference Equations (PODE)”. Almost 100 scientists from 27 countries including USA, Canada, Japan, Belarus, Czechoslovakia, Algeria, Finland, and Poland presented 40 original papers and 9 posters.
INVESTMENT CHAMPS OF IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS!
Izmir University of Economics came in first place among 20 groups from 6 universities in the "Inter University Investment League Portfolio Comptetition" held by İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş. (IS Investment). Students had a chance to monitor the economic data in domestic and foreign markets, and carried out virtual transactions throughout the year as part of the Trade Master Economics Platformu established within the universities by IS Investment. Investment champions came out of IUE.
A RECIPE FOR STALE BREAD
Students put a “stop” to millions of loaves of bread going into garbage every day. Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management, supported the “Ekmeğimize Sahip Çıkalım (Let’s Protect Our Bread)” project of students of Torbalı Girls’ Technical and Vocational High School, and baked 30 servings of pastry out of 5 stale breads.
