BIKING FOR HEALTH!
As the spring is felt more and more these days, the experts point out the importance of bicycling as it helps move many of the muscles in the body. The experts, who claim that bicycling is a sustainable activity, stated that it had a dual benefit of fun and health at the same time. The student club of IUE academicians and students, allows its members to participate in competitions and benefit from a healthy life in nature.
STUDENTS WILL MEET AT THE CONFERENCE
Students from 13 countries will get together at the 10th International Student Conference organized by Izmır University of Economics Faculty of Business. Participants from Germany, Italy, Holland, England, France, Mongolia, Turkey, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, India, and İran will be presenting almost 60 papers. Professor Emiliano Brancaccio, whose area of expertise is macroeconomic policies in Europe, will be delivering the opening speech of the conference that will take place on April 14, at 10.00. FURNITURES ARE DESIGNED BY STUDENTS OF IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Students of Izmir Economics will share their creativity with Izmir public. Students of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, will be displaying the custom designed furniture at Agora Shopping Mall on April 11 – 25.
TRADE SUMMIT AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
The “International Trade and Finance Summit 2013”, organized by Izmir University of Economics International Trade and Finance Club, brought together the leading names of the field. Alphan Manas, Honorary Chairman of the Turkish Futurists Association, who delivered the opening speech of the summit, shared his experiences with the students in his presentation titled, “Creativity and Innovative Entrepreneurship”.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Arda, Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Visual Communication prepared a “Voting Guide” to guide those first time voters and those who forgot how to vote days before the local elections. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce (ITO), described the guide as ‘civic duty’ and shared it with the members of ITO.
AEGEAN HERBS BECAME EXQUISITELY TASTEFUL IN THE HANDS OF IUE CHEFS
The young chefs of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management created a delicious soup with the Aegean herbs. Michelin starred French Chef Joseph Viola, who came to Izmir as part of ‘Achieving a Star for Aegean Cuisine Project’, Executive Chef Osman Sezener, Lecturer at IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management, and students cooked a soup by using 18 different Aegean herbs and offered to guests at the Herb Festival organized at Özbek Village, Urla. There were long lines to taste the exquisite soup which was prepared with a French cooking technique by using the cure-all Aegean herbs.
THE ELDERLY BECAME UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AT IUE!
The elderly people who live at Narlıdere Huzurevi Yaşlı Bakım ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi (Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Centre) became students of Izmir University of Economics as part of celebrating ‘Respect the Elderly Week’. The elderly sat at the desks with students and headed back in time to remember their school days. They listened to the presentations of Prof. Dr. Erol Kahveci, Head of Department of Sociology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuran Aydemir Çaylı, Lecturer at Department of Psychology, along with students at the event that was organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Psychology Club, and shared their experiences in an interactive lecture. They had a coffee break at the cafeteria and chatted after the class was over.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS DOMINATE THE MARKETS WITH İŞ INVESTMENT
The Trade Master Economics Platform, which is established as part of the cooperation between Izmir University of Economics and İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş (IS Investment), will guide the future investors. The Trade Master Economics Platform, of İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş. (IS Investment), one of the leading establishments of Turkish capital markets, will get university students familiarized with investment tools, and enable them to monitor the economic data in domestic and foreign markets, and carry out virtual transactions. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Erdal Aral, Director-General of Is Investment, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Acting Rector of IUE, academicians, and students attended the opening ceremony of the platform. Demirtaş and Aral performed the first virtual transaction with students.
YOUNG AND OLD PEOPLE ARE HAPPY
It has been reported that the rate of individuals who claimed that they were happy was 59% according to Life Satisfaction Survey 2013 by Turkish Statistical Institute. The study revealed that 65% of individuals between the ages of 18 - 24 claimed that they were happy, whereas, 55% of individuals between the ages of 45-54 claimed they were happy. The rate of happiness reached to 63% again, when it came to ages 65 and over.
